Speedo & Odometer Now Packed up
Discussion
Next installment of my TVR woes.
2 months of trouble free weekend use, about 200-300 miles and now the speedo has packed up.
The speedo intitally stopped working and it was only when I booted it up to about 50-60mph that it suddenly flicked into life, once it drops to just below 20mph it falls to 0mph.
It only picks up again if you give it some welly.
The odometer is not working either.
I have the Bible, and have checked the fuses, but they are o.k.
I am thinking it is either the Sensor or a connection on the sensor or speedometer.
I am thinking it may be more the sensor or connection to it.
Any ideas anyone??
And how much do you think it will cost to replace?
Bearing in mind I am still getting over the £250 for the fuel tank welding.
Many thanks.
Lee.

Mine (99V) packed up & neither the speedo or mileometer worked. Replaced by Joospeed, sensor £50 + labour (1hr ish, I think, as it was bundled in with other jobs). To calibrate, set up as close to touching as possible, without touching, works at higher speeds & is adjusted until it works fine down to walking pace.
If you are lucky it may just need adjusting.

It's the speedo that's packed up aswell so it isn't just the case of the 9,999's.
The car's just pi%%ing me off at the moment, everytime I take it out I think what is going to break next.
All the time the Supra (which is 11 years old 120k on the clock) and 100% reliable, is getting neglected whilst I continually pour money into this thing.
£590 for a service.
£252 for fuel tank weld.
Probably around £150 to have this sorted out.
That is so far this year.
I'm beginning to regret buying it

Supraman - those costs are reasonable. What were you expecting when you bought a TVR? - to run it for just the cost of the servicing? You've got a service in there too don't forget. The fuel tank must be a rare occurance as I've never heard of one splitting (maybe some more expert owners have, but anyway). Speedos do pack up, Lord knows why. Mine packed up 3 months after buying the car. It was replaced under warranty (not an expensive part anyway) and now has 30k on it with no problems.
A non-functioning speedo does not stop you driving the car.
You need to budget at least £1000 a year to run a Rover V8 powered TVR, maybe a little more. (In my case I've just had to have a whole new roof - £400something.)
Get the car out and drive it, that should cheer you up.
