Chaps,
The top bit, where the meta immobiliser and relays are that control indicator and hazard flashers - I need to whack a relay that's sticking.....to lift the top bit off it doesn't look too bad a job - a few bolts maybe...

However, before I dive in, any hints?......like don't do it

thanks,
Mike.

When you put it back use wing nuts instead of ordinary nuts then not faffing about with a spanner.

totally agree with this. Also, prop a plastic bottle (or similar) under the left hand side, to stop the bolts damaging the leather.

If you want to be anal and ever want to remove the top again, it is well worth trimming the studs down while the top is off. Less turns to get the nut on & less excess to scratch leather - particularly on the tough 3rd one. Just make sure you know how much excess thread there is to cut away before you take it off.

quick tip for getting the 3rd bolt on the drivers side

you can either get upside down in the footwell (not nice)

if you have long arms you can kneel down on the drivers side facing the front(door open of course ) and curl your arm up into the cavity where the bolt is.

sorry - it was the arm curling from kneeling bit that I meant was the tip - much, much easier than the head in the footwell antics imo

Totally agree here Drivers Side nut is also easier to access if you remove the Air vent ducting. Another useful tip is to replace the nuts for wing nuts much quicker than the normal hex nuts and spanner!

Is this degenerating into an exploits in cars / embarrassing footprints on screen thread rolleyes

Was this ticking relay your flasher unit BTW (its supposed to tick you know)

For your hazard switch I have a little diag (ignore the starter relay its mine) that might be of asssiatance

All good reading chaps, and thanks for the tips. I recently had my car back from a specialist TVR dealer in the Worcestershire area after they attempted (and failed) to fix the mileometer. However the dash top is now loose on the driver's side, so i assume they've not done the bolt up or something has, gulp, sheared off!? Guess i'll have to get upside down in the footwell & shine the torch to see what's happened.
