Gents some advise please, I am about to get the car chassis done and ringing around different people to do the job they have different options, some suggest powder coating, tower view services have their version of powder coating, some suggest blasting, zinc painting, then 2 coats of industrial paint then waxoil. Anybody got any thoughts or experience of which is the best option.

Thanks in advance chaps

My experience of powder coating is not good. And it can chip easily so probably wouldn't be the best for the chassis. I would suggest a metal treatment first followed by four layers of spray paint, two if hand painted.
Don't wax oil it, it will look like a giant sneezed over your lovely freshly painted chassis. hehe

Just had my Cerbera sand blasted, two coats of zinc primer then powder coated. I am going to cover the out of sight bits in all sorts of gloop! Let you know in about 5 years!

Hi

Sand blast, spray with several coats of Zinga, spray with several coats of POR15 and top coat with chassis colour. Then several coats of sprayed Tectyl 356? (the almost clear one). While you've got the chassis separated from the body fill the inside of the hollow tubes, etc. with rust proofing (Tectyl 506) and turn it over a few times to make sure it gets everywhere inside well coated.

Serve on a bed of rice.

Just had my Griff chassis powder coated. Had long discussions with people about what coatings to use. Decided it was all down to the preparation of the metal (makes sense!!) So had the chassis shot blasted, Phospher etched primed, then silver powdercoat with a satin clear top coat. Looks very very good, better then new!! Also seems tough. The guy at the coaters said because of the drying process of the silver, it will more likely scuff as opposed to chip.

Oh Jesus, I spent about 3hrs a night for 4 nights removing crud/waxoyl/powder coating, then about 2hrs zinc painting, and all I did was the engine upper rails as far back as the outriggers.
I'm just about to start working my way down the chassis but now realise I've probably done less than 10% and have the feeling this is going to be a Forth road bridge job.
Thanks a bunch jester7 cry

Nice chassis though

Indeed it is! box landing from the states on weds, and then i can get cracking on getting the LS installation properly underway. 6.3 ltr no less with bumpy cam and flowed heads, should be quite perky. Was 528bhp in Craig at Dyno Torques RX7. He's going 7ltr!

Oh Jesus...

hehehehehehe, wait until you get on with propshaft diff out ~ you'll be coming out of the garage high as kite for many nights

I reckon I am just going to let mine rot & then do the body off in future... Its probably less work overall if you bite the bullet.

Jester7,
I've been thinking about doing the same with my Chim. Can you recommend someone? I'm in Farnborough so Berkshire is right next door. Also, how long is the powder coating on the chassis expected to last? What should expect to pay?

Cheers,
