Maybe I have missed something chimaera specific?

The hazard switch when pressed keeps all four lights on, and doesn't flash....that is, unless I don't press the switch all the way in, if I sort of put pressure on it, feel a point, I can get it flashing away like it should do.

Press it so it goes in (and is supposed to flash) and they stay on.
Sort of half way - flashing lovely...release, no flashing (as obviously it's in the off position)

Now, this sort of thing gets right up my snotbox as I'm a stickler for this being as they should.

So, work completed so far is...

1.Dashboard top removed to give access to relays,
2.Centre of bottom dash bit removed to get at switch unit, stereo removed also
3.Fuse board in passenger footwell located, and 15amp flasher fuse checked - ok
4.New switch installed - same, diddly squat improvement.
5.New relay installed - same result.

I bought the switch from an electronics company (the thread may still be visible) I bought a relay from euro car parts which was x referred from their computers as suitable, the numbers are the same, but one letter at the end is different -but it's only a 3 pin relay so can't seem much of a problem with that.

I have got a 'proper' GM astra relay coming to the vauxhall dealers tomorrow, obviously that will cost an arm and a leg.

So......................any other ideas? Is there another hidden fuse somewhere else, maybe the unit has 2 fuses, any help gratefully received as I'm about to smash the thing up with a lumphammer....only tvr would put a flasher unit under a goddamn dashboard. banghead

Ta.
Mike.

From that alone it must be the switch. The flasher works as they are flashing so cant be that, can't be a fuse, must be the switch.

Good luck sorting this one.

Don't suppose you know why my intermittent wipers stopped working this morning do you? hehe

If you have no hazard switch, I would think it would pass. (but times may have changed)

Silverback, try getting some switch cleaner from maplins and give the little bugger a good fogging inside while working the button in and out repeatadly, better if you power it down by pulling the fuse while your doing this as the solvent is highly flammable, good luck it does work sometimes.

I would try this.
disconnect the switch and touch the wires together if the hazards flash it must be the switch.
spray the switch with switch cleaner or everyones fav WD40 and keep switching switch for a while as it may be a dirty contact.
put switch back on and try again.
I hope this works.

I'll give it a good old clean tomorrow...

Another suggestion to me by mad mike was to take the spade connectors off, put new ones on and re crimp them....this strikes me as a good suggestion, as the wire may be loose behind. I'll try that too....Isn't it amazing how something so small can be soooooo infuriating.

hi
does the switch come out with out removing the top dash.
if so i will take mine out and test for you tomorrow.
if you have a continuity tester you could check what the swicth does by puting the leads across the terminals.this would tell you what wires to put together.

good luck
Jason

Hi Jason,
The switch comes out by removing the panel where the radio is. I think 4 screws hold it in.
The switch is situated on a metal bracket held on with 2 8mm nuts however the spade connectors can be pulled off without taking the nuts off.
I don't have any electrical whizzbangery unfortunately but I'll try all of the lads suggestions, and see what we've got. It must be something simple, I've replaced both relay and switch....grumpy Don't go ripping about inside your dash, just in case the same thing happens to you!!

I only started all this fitting a new cd player, but before I did anything I prodded the hazard switch for some reason and found it not to work......don't you love tvr's..

Is the switch physically moving inwards at all? Can the switch be moving the loom enough to cause a bad connection at the back?

The DP switches are very tight to get the female spade terminals on ~ since you have to do it in-situ I would make sure the conections are located properly. It is possible you have a faulty switch ~ you are sure its a latching switch not a momentary one?

Several of the other switches are DP (eg dash light) which I would substitute to test (its a lot easier to just pop out the dash light one)

Always works for me.
Re your wipers, on a serious note, it's bound to be the astra stalk, they go for a pastime. Easy job to replace though, and usually about a fiver from a scrapper.
