New mod what can i expect?
Discussion
Ive just brought the bits for my next mod.
K&N filter
Oversize elbow (smooth bore)
Heat shielding for long intake tube
45mm port and polished plenum plate with ram air trumpets
45mm port and polished inlet manifold
what sort of increase can i expect from this lot?...10bhp maybe?
also how much would it cost to have my heads port and polished?
Cheers

Any help or advice appreciated.

I've completed most of the mods you've got planned have a look here
Are you planning on fitting a smooth bore air intake from the AFM to the front bulkhead too?
Rich
Thanks for the tips Rich and Quinny just the sort of thing im after
Ive just ported my engine and it takes around 1 hour per port (x16) to do a half decent job. Thats why its expensive ! Your real point of interest is where the inlet manifold joins the heads. The ports need to at least match the valley gasket openings, and you dont want any steps between manifold and port to cause turbulance. The standard Rover castings are very poor, and I was told that TVR never did any more than chamfer the port edges,so I dont think going from 38-45mm trumpets will do a lot on the 3.9. The cross sectional area of the standard port is considerably less than the standard 38mm trumpet (although these are shrouded by the plenum chamber top), so the real restrictions are in the ports and valves / valve lift. I guess you wont know untill you take off the inlet manifold and see if its matched / opened up already to make most use of these goodies.

Rich does the smooth bore airfilter to afm make much difference? I only say this as the inside is pretty smooth and unrestricted anyway.
I fitted the smooth bore pipe along with a K&N filter. The whole lot seemed to make the car breath better throughout the rev range, especially top end, plus a better induction noise from the front end
The standard pipe is corrugated so I would expect the airflow to get a bit disrupted in there
The diameter of the standard and smooth pipes are pretty much the same, but then the standard AFM will always be a bottleneck in the flow
Might be one for the future...

Shall find out tommorow thanks for the heads up

I'm just about to fit the inlet pipes and K&N filter as this seemed the best value. Thought about the ACT trumpets, but then where do you stop, t spacer, chips and remap, etc. So decided to put the money towards new shocks instead.
Yeah it's great isn't it!! Just like the that 80's film "The Money Pit"! But don't you love it
Getting some new shocks from Joo, as soon as I finish his questionnaire...
