My Supra is up for sale and I really need to get a TVR out of my system. I love the thought of having one.

But are they a good daily driver? I do about 3-500 miles a week. I once had a quick GTR33 as a daily driver and that was up to the job but I'm aware that TVR's are a lot rawer than the skyline

I get about 280 miles to £65 in petrol at the moment. Would a 4.5 Chimeara differ much from that

Any advice would be appreciated thanks

IMHO yes - though as I commute by train mines a weekend car.
£35-£40 worth of 99ron lasts around 180 miles in my 400.
It's very comfortable - I did 3000 miles in one week last year on the Furball and never suffered from a numb backside. The RV8 is a proven engine and providing it's maintained properly shouldn't be a problem. Remember they need servicing every 6000 miles.
Plenty of people on here use a Chim or Griff as a daily driver and they are often more reliable if used regularly.

I do approx 300 miles a week in mine commuting, mostly motorways. No problems with comfort with a standard exhaust. If you get one with a modded exhaust it might be rather too loud on long journeys. I get close to 300 miles out of 50 litres of petrol but these figures seem to vary widely depending on the driver and the roads driven.

excellent sounds like I'd be better off petrol wise than my Supra. I wondered about exhaust cos I remember my GTR sometimes getting on my nerves on the motorway if doing a long journey!!!!

I'm changing rear tyres every 5000 miles at the moment. I it any worse on these and what is the average service cost every 6000 miles

6k service is around £350 and 12k around £420 obviously dependant on if any other work is required at the time. Many owners on here (myself included) detail costs on the my car section in their profiles so may be worth a look there.
My exhaust is sleeved (ie modded) but is only really louder at the back end so doesn't grate on long journeys.
Tyres - I've had mine on (Falkens rear and Eagle F1s front) now for 6k and they barely look worn, again this includes the 3k on last years Furball 5000 which really gave the car and tyres a workout.

Tyres should last more than 5000 miles unless you cane it all the time (at which point think less than ten miles/gallon). Tyres are also pretty cheap as lots of cars use 225/50/16s so you can pick them up for well under £100 each.
Standard sevice costs are about £300-£500 for 6 and 12K intervals at an independent but I would budget on £500 to £700 for each as there is usually something that needs doing.
Editted to add - insurance is the obvious thing missing from your list. Don't know how it would compare to a Supra but I imagine a bit cheaper...

modded exhaust ( cherry bombs on mine) is not a concern on motorways at a steady speed, just when you boot it....which you will all the time hehe

I use mine as a daily driver and have modded exhaust...the only problem i have is the threat of an ASBO from my neighbour (policeman) as i wake him up on my way to work at 7:30 every morning hehe

I use my 97 450 as a daily driver, so far it has the ACT cherry bomb system and a couple of other bits and its absolutely fine. Lots of fun starting it up in the underground carpark under my flats as it just sounds evil but never had any complaints as yet! I get around 240 miles from a tank of vpower, costing about £40/£45 which really isn't too bad - this can drop significantly if I use a bit more right foot and make some induced pops and bangs on the overrun though!

From my experience so far its been absolutely fine as a daily driver, probably better than my old mk6 fiesta as it just makes every morning that much more fun when you walk into the carpark and see it ready to go... The only slight downside to it i've found is that on a really cold morning it just runs rubbish until its at least a bit warm - though I understand this should be cured when I upgrade to the omex ignition system soon!

I spend quite a lot of time on the motorway in it as well and its the most comfortable car i've ever driven on the motorway, at night I just turn up the stereo, turn off all the dial and stereo lights and the miles just fly by!

Sorry, a bit off-topic - I'm considering this too. Any more info on benefits?

Thanks

P.S. Used mine as a daily driver for a while. You won't regret it. You might want A/C for sitting in traffic in the summer though.

I would say the Chim is the perfect daily driver if you're doing at least 20 miles each way, and the route you take doesn't have much traffic usually. Driving in slow traffic is painful with the heavy pedals and the Chim just wants to be let free.

Definately better the more they are driven, although too many miles does pile on the wear & tear.

Enjoy it!

Perfect for everyday driving. Twice this year already I've had to use the TVR in place of the girlfriends 'reliable' Ford which didn't like the cold - no problems at all.

As lots of people will tell you, generally the more they're used the better they are, certainly true in my case.

Do it, get it out of your system, but beware, once you take that 1st test drive, you'll be hooked...!!

Yep. If you are stuck in traffic and the sun is beating down, cool air con on the legs makes it a better place to be.
