I am technically impared, the wife owns the tool box and power tools in our house which I am not allowed to touch under pain of death.

We are planning a trip from Northern Spain to Almeira in the Chim this spring so I am peparing for 'eventualities'.

The Chim has no spare but these foam thinghy's so I bought an electric pump.
Just realised there is no jack or wheel nut key either.

Read the 'Chim/Griff' bible and will order some spares like fanbelt, etc.

I thought it would be a good idea to take some tools, although don't know what to do with them but some kind soul may 'volunteer' if I get stranded, so having some tools with me is the minimum I can do for the poor sod.

Had a look in Halfrauds for an emergency tool set but they only sell enormous ones.

So am looking for advice from you kind PH people what I should take as a minimum and where to get it.

Thanks in advance,

Useless

Ahh, nearly forgot. I have taken out AA European cover just 'in case'.

tAKE OUT rac OR SIMILAR INSTEAD. tHEY RECOVERED MY cHIM BACK FROM sWITZERLAND LAST YEAR FOLLOWING A BROKEN CLUTCH AND IT (oops caps lock) arrived back with 2.5ks worth of front end damage for which I have had to take them to court to secure an admission of liability.

Regarding tools - litre or so of oil, jack etc. tyre weld, V belt, spanners & sockets, 100amp fuse (a must), copy of the bible, screwdrivers, litre of coolant should do you. Also, some gaffer tape can always come in handy.

My touring kit list from last year's trip around Italy. Didn't need any of it but it was nice to have.

Oh, and it's worth checking the 100 amp fuse before you go as well as taking a spare.

...or remove the 100 Amp fuse...one less thing to worry about.

Gaffer tape, electrical tape, super glue...2 litre bottle of water. some spare wire...and the bible!!!

Do you mean Almeria? If so, why? Just interested as we have a new build down there in the final throes of completion.

If you get chance drive 20 mins up the road to the capital of the Almeria region, El Ehida ... superb little town with some great classy shops and bars, a hidden gem yes

By the way ... don't forget a spare ignition lead just in case... and make sure it's the longest one!

Andy you seem pretty clued up about these things. Will it still work if I remove the fuse?
silly

You need to join the wires together (otherwise the alternator can't charge the battery).

Basically undo the nuts and move the left wire onto the same pole as the right hand wire and put the nut back on. This is generally considered to be safe but the fuse does in theory offer the alternator & battery some protection against a major fault.

...or if you are really going for it get some new cable and put that in...

Yes it will be fine without the 100 amp fuse...you will just eliminate something that could go wrong...and when it does it means you have got to crawl under the car to change it.

by the way, Ray_Von, if you want to be upset come round mine sometime and see the state my chim is in....about a third of the way through the strip down....!!!

Yep, Almeria you are right. We are going to a place called Turre where friends of ours have moved.
Just thought it would be nice to drop in.

Now here we go again 'don't forget a spare ignition lead', what's that. Are these jump leads?

Me and tools are like a razorblade in monkey hands, but suits me fine as I hate DIY. I have 'other' qualities !!!
