Hi, I need to do my exhaust manifold gaskets on my 4.3 Chim, no problem with the head to manifold ones but cant find the round gasket for the joint with the "Y" CAT section. It’s the bolt together type rather than the later clamp, I would imagine similar to the pre-cat cars. I have heard that you can use silicone as gasket for this joint, is that correct?

Err cant you make one? The flange is a perfect template. I wouldnt use silicone, there are exhaust assembly sealants designed for this job which will not damage cats, suitable for temp/ purpose... IIRC TVR had about 3 different gaskets (ie 3 different flanges) luckily I stocked up (only 2 more catless sessions before I have to make some!)

Im sure I could make one, would be easier to buy one though which is why I was asking, using silicone was sugested to me as better for the job than exhaust jointing compound, do you think silicone will damage the cat then?

Oh you've made my night I am soooo sorely tempted to try

Don't know for sure, but even not all exhaust sealants are cat friendly, and there are rather a lot of variants of silicone sealant.... There seems to be quite a few folk who cant even manage to get the sump sealed with silicone from past reports scratchchin. You may find also that people are confusing the clamped versions with the flanged type.

Since there are the different versions of the flanges you may run into problems ordering new gaskets to fit (IIRC Mike Williams asked for 3 things to ascertain which gaskets to supply). Gasket material should be readily available & its not a hard shape to cut (2 circles + bolt holes) if you are in a rush.

All I said was I wouldn't, but I have gaskets ready and you didn't

Frost do a silicone espically for the Job. Anyone want to recomend where to buy the manifold to head gaskets? Some seem to be paper and others metal, can you used any Rover V8 ones?

A lot are designed for use with studs ~ very fiddly to install on TVR witch bolts! The twin port versions at least have a strip you can manipulate them with. IMO the later LR metal ones are fine ERR6733.
