I plan to fit the seemingly inconsistently fitted front splitter for stability & cooling benefits to my Chimaera 95/96, which doesn't appear to have any existing holes from memory (assume didn't have one fitted originally).

Having done a search it's still not clear where exactly teh splitter is located. Can anyone provide an image or suggestion where this goes & what fittings should be used?

I will be happy to report any benefts

You need to find the flat part of the undertray. I fixed mine by drilling 3 holes under the rad, I fastened it with bolts & large washers + rubber washers to protect the fibreglass. But I use plastic guttering so selection of mount points may (and access to them) be different for you.

Andy,

There are photos on the site if you run a search.

I commend your efforts in trying the splitter, having had one in place for 12 months, until it removed itself I can say my car / driving pleasure is better without it.

Mainly because I do not have to ensure that horrible grinding sound over bumps in the road, or explain to my passenger not to worry, it won't fall apart.

On the cooling side, I fitted the two spped Modwise kit that keeps everything good.
London Thunder - no problem.

On the stability issue / bonnet security. I have found no problems at what would be considered high speed by many.

Andy,
happy to get out there tomorrow & take a photo if you need it, and get some dimensions. I think it's only thin ally or similar so you should be able to make one easily. The posts I've seen on this topic have a mixed response.
I reckon that for everyone that thinks they are good to have there's probably another with the other point of view.
I suppose the number and size of anti car ramps and cushions that you regularly have to drive over will have an impact on the suitability of having one.
Let me know if you want me to get out there tomorrow and measure

well...partly removed mine reversing out of a particularly aggressively-angled driveway at a mates house......then spent 40 mins trying to get the other 2 screws undone...at 2.30am.....(missus was very pleased mad).....never forgave the little strip of metal and never replaced it...couldnt see the point myself

Have a look here:

I bought my Lip Spoiler (aka Splitter) (cost about £30 incl of VAT) from these fellas - Andy at APM fitted it in a moment, with a few well placed screws, when he was under the car on another job.

Also have a look here - lots of talk & pics about the subject:

Keith - Thanks i'm quite savvy with most things and can guess where it should go, but it waould be nice to confirm with some images if you have any.

The one i have is alloy, and my bonnet does lift over 100mph (on track days !) so hopefully this should reduce, but i'm all for exprimentation for £14 !!

Right, here is a pic, I hope!
http://ph.uncle-dave.co.uk/upload/ima

The spoiler is 3" wide of which 2" is the angled down bit, the other 1" is the bit fixed to the bottom of the body. The gap between the body and the front (lowest point) of the spoiler is 3/4" I didn't measure the length of it but a look at the photo should enable anyone to figure this out

PS I have no idea why the pic is tinted blue

I did a blaggy thing a while ago, since I preferred soft plastic to a hard material & decided to go with consumable splitter...

If that is the one I think it is by Fibreon, it is more than likely a very solid bit of kit. I think Julians workmanship will exceed both of ours put together

My first 97 chim when less than a year old had a piece of alloy sheet 3 or 4 inches deep bent at 45 degrees riveted across the front chassis cross member. I only found out it was there when I bent it. Currently I own an almost identical chim with close VIN numbers, no sign of anything ever been fitted and no accident damage. Optional extra?

Well this was my thread - and i have now fitted the splitter in about four minutes. There were no existing holes but self tapping screws saw to that (not the ones supplied - far too fat (Tut Tut Leven)

The salient point here is that after one run I could feel the high speed stability had improved notably. For 14 quid a worthwhile uprate in my view...and i wasn't convincing myself either

Just have to see how long it lasts. Thanks for images supplied.
