Just picked me chim up from Offords after having the cherry bomb thingy done to the exhaust, Wottttta sound gave me goose bumps, don't think they will let me on a track day now!!.I Recommend anyone thinking about having it done to just do it, it is totally awesome, the only down side to the proceedings was that on the way down there last week the car developed a misfire and had to spend a week there , bloody typical!!!!! but the guys at Offord sorted it out for me with no fuss, thanks guys for your help. Now i can't wait for decent weather to get the roof down and start enjoying.

Well done chap, good move on the Cherries, BUT... get the roof off ASAP and enjoy it even more!!! If its not snowing or raining , then the weather is decent.

"Someone" drove back from Blackpool to Berkshire after the ThunderBall a couple of weeks ago "topless".

Go on, you know it makes sense

you needed to turn up to the Herts meet last Sunday to hear a few. I was demonstrating mine to a chap from MK who'd not long bought his first Chim.

He seemed to be, though his mate (who's considering a Tuscan) I think enjoyed the noise more.
Hopefully see you at one of the next ones...

What is the difference between the Cherry bombs fitted by Offords and the system supplied by ACT. I was told that the ACT system is easy to fit and could be done DIY or by a local exhaust place. But an earlier thread said that only Offords fit them and that welding was involved. I'm keen to get this fitted, but Offords is a long way from Aberdeen, So the ACT Option sounds a better bet.

angus99 I'm the same as you mate, would love to fit them to my car but I'm in Edinburgh and it's a long drive down! Unless I anyone can suggest an alternative I could be making that long trip down south soon ...

Im not sure what Offords offer, but I can tell you that I played around with my exhaust (including sleeving) and it just created probs. In the end I bought an ACT Cherry Bomb system and had it fitted at a local garage. Piece of cake to do apparently. It is full stainless and has a flexible fitting for easier fitting. Its sorted now and sounds the business. Increased noise, but not silly loud, with much more bass to it and it pops and bangs better than it did with the origional exhaust or when it was sleeved.
If you go for the ACT system you would be as well buying a set of mounting brackets and rubber gromets. ACT don't sell them, but you can buy them from R.T Racing (Richard 0114 281 7507).
Good luck.

The difference?

Price for one. ACT £460, Offords £140 - that's a significant difference, depends what a day of your time is worth I guess!

The ACT system is exactly that; a system. www.pistonheads.com/tvr/default.asp?storyId=14671 The Cherries are fitted a lot further up the exhaust, and the section where there would normally be the silencer box is just two straight pipes. Why? No idea. I guess if you wanted a quieter system you could in theory hack the ACT system and add a couple more Cherries in the conventional place, but perhaps Cherries don't work that way. The system is fully stainless, I'm not convinced the standard system is. Should be an easy DIY change, and you would retain your standard system to revert if you wanted, or you could sell to offset the cost. Finally you can get a quad exit system for the Griff at lead, this may be an option for Chims as well, not sure.

Offords cut open the existing silencer on the existing system and replace the perf tubes with Cherries, then reseal the box. Externally the Offords conversion looks completely standard afterwards.

There are sound clips of both if you search.

thumbup Having mine done today at Offords, although not the normal way. As others have said above, Cambridge is not on my doorstep but I have read so many threads about how good the Offords conversion is, but was undecided. I finally heard a Chim at The Thunder Ball the other week and was absolutely convinced, "got to get it done". My brother has a Chim also, so after speaking to Simon at Offords, we removed our exhaust systems last weekend, threw them in the Mondy estate and Brother and his Mrs have gone for a wander round Cambridge whilst the exhausts are fettled, can`t wait till he gets back so i can throw them back on tomorrow. driving shout Coming Through!!

Had mine done at Offords, even a Cerb owner at Wadhurst said how nice my car sounded. I liked that as I'd been following him for a while and the sound in front was very nice too, if not the quite same note.
