My chim has just started to try and tick over at about 100rpm. I has done this ever since i fixed a small leak on the inlet manifold that was hissing loud.
The car will run perfect when warm but when it is cold the tic over can range from 600rpm to a complete stall. getting very annoying now trying to brake and toe the accel at lights etc.
Pls help

Hi ekim

After you fixed the air leak did you reset your ECU?

Definitely if you have had an airleak going on it may have coked up in one position, one that it would not normally be in because your airleak was doing all the air passing, just a thought, get the carb cleaner out.

was it's tick over ok before you fixed the leak ?
if so could somebody have adjusted the tick over down, to compensate for the air leak.

That sounds like a dead/stuck stepper motor...???

What was the 'leak' you fixed?

the idle adjustment screw is located in the plenum chamber, next to the point that the pipe/hose
connects, it is recessed down a hole, screw it down then back it off two and a half turns, for a basic set up
as Andy has said you could also be having problems with your stepper motor.

Phil

Your problem could also be with the temperature unit on the engine that sends signals to the ecu,
If the ecu thinks the engine is hot, when its cold it will not compensate with extra fuel, giving you a slow tick over

removed the stepper motor tonight, it was a bit black but nothing too bad, gave it good clean then the thing would not tick over at all and ran terrible but i had also d/c the ecu to reset it. gave it a bit of right foot and it slowly cleared. it is not 100% but it is not stalling anymore but it does drop to about 200-300 revs at junctions for a few seconds before it rights its self but that may just be the ecu sorting its self out, i will keep you posted but fingers crossed that may have fixed it.
as for the air leak there is a small rubber cap covering a little nipple on the back of the plenum and it had been worn thru by the accel cable, took a while to find that one!!!

Thanks for all the help

Try putting a thicker sealing washer behind the stepper motor.

Reset the base idle, cleaned the stepper and reset the ecu and all seems ok now, fired from cold tonight, hit 1200 for a second or two then dropped to a steady 800. all looking good.

Thanks for all the help.
