Cant fit caliper over new discs and pads
Discussion
Help please!
New discs and pads fitted and am trying to get the caliper to fit back over. Having trouble pushing the piston back. I have taken the cap off the square brake reservoir (the one silcioned into the wing), and have tried pushing the piston back with a "G" cramp. Am I missing something here it feels like I need to do something else to get rid of the hydralic pressure and push the piston back! Do I have to losen a cap somewhere else? if so where!
Right off to bed in a mo been doing stuff on the car all day and my cursing is on the increase!
cheers

Blow by blow decription in the bible 2 including piccies of the tool needed to wind back the rears. Not using the tool is a little risky as it can damage the piston.
If it is the front, then there is a problem usually with the master cylinder locking up. This may require the master to be removed/loosened from the servo.

RCA said: I does not push in, it twists in as if you are doing it up.You can get a brake caliper winder tool or alternatively try something like a flat blade screwdriver to turn it. Hope this helps

RCA is that correct? If they twist in then how would the brakes work when you press the pedal.
I have found its normally a 2 person job, you can carefully lever the new pads in the caliper with a bar to force the caliper open then quickly fit over disk. Alternatively a trip to halfords should get you the proper tool to make it easy!
The winder doesnt twist the piston back it simply gears the winder to provide vertical pressure to force the piston back.

Alex,
front calipers push in, rear galipers wind in, hence the 4 location slots on the piston, these can becoem damaged if some has used a pair of curclip pliers or screwdriver to do the job.
Easiaiest and safest way is but a caliper wind pack tool, Halfords do em for £20, remember to make a note of the position of the slots when winding the piston in as this will need to locate with the lug on the brake pad when rotating the caliper back to fit.
Hope this helps.

Right!
Tried to twist piston with screw driver but this was taking ages and burring the piston. Got the tool from Halfords and it was easy, piston pushed back and new discs and pads on the back and caliper fitted over the top easy. Just missing a bolt so have got to scurry around on the garage floor and find it in a mo, after I have finshed my cuppa of course! Got to do the fronts monday.
Thanks alot for your help guys, lifesaver
By the way steve only got the first bible I am fraid! perhaps I should upgrade soon
Many thanks
