caos at the battery compartment
Discussion
oh man!
i am a newbie chimaera owner (4.0-97/second hand) and yesterday i had to jumpstart my car because i had a flat battery...
so when i pulled the battery out from the passengers side i was suprised!!! i had electronic injection control and a lot of cables ending with some fuses?? just left behind the battery all around on the floor ect...
is this normal ?? or the electronic injection box has to be attached to somewhere or that fuse like things has to be organized in a proper way??(grouped? or sealed in a way?)
thanks?

The first day of my Griff ownership required a new battery, like you when I looked in the footwell I thought what have I bought?, apparently it's quite normal for everything to be just tucked up and around the battery but it does take a few goes to shove everything back in the right order to make it fit.
I'm no help at all am I.

It's normal.
At least I took 2 weeks to get my first flat battery!
I think I left the radio on. My other car (MOC?) is a Peugeot and that turns the radio off when you remove the ignition key. You can turn the radio back on but then turns itself off again after 30 mins.
A Chim does not do this...

dannyboyo said: Nope! Its not fixed anywhere. Mine just wedges nicely to the left of the battery box, with all the cables on top. I think some of those cables are to plug into a computer for tune ups etc. Welcome to the club by the way
thanks dannyboyo
left of the battery box???
my battery box covers up all the width of the legroom...and i left all the cables at the end side of the legroom...(hoping that they dont conduct anything between them if they touch to each other!!) and also i realized 2 holes on the floor !!
i dont understand how come they are still working with all the water and humidity which can enter from that holes???
My ECU is just balanced on top of the battery, with a load of terminal blocks.
My Dad who is an engineer at Ford's couldn't believe that anyone would make a car and just leave a load of terminal blocks balanced on the battery.
The fuse box is behind that lot aswell, which can be difficult to get to.
Getting to know what my Chimaera is like and how it is built, nothing is surprising me now

Sounds as if the prvious owner could not be bothered to fit the battery box back. Those two holes sound like the battery box retaining bolt holes. If this is the case, the battery box is free to move and this is not a good idea.
Go to www.tvrbooks.co.uk and download the Griff/Chim sample chapter. All about the battery , its box etc. And yes those wholes need sealing if they are extra ones. I wonder if the car leaked like a sieve and the previous owner drilled them for drainage?
