Can anyone tell me how old your car has to be to be able to take out classic insurance? Also, can anyone give me some reliable company names, and what price would be good for classic insurance on a 4 litre chim year 95 with 4 years ncb. Thank you for any responses.

Mines a 96 4.0HC and I have it on a classic policy with RH specialist car division and it cost £328 for 5000 miles fully comp based on it being £12000 to replace.

Try Hegarty. They've had some good reviews on here. In insured my '99 500 with them, 3k miles a year, £243. I'm 35 with full ncb. Interestingly, the policy would have cost the same for a 4, 4.5 or a 5.0.

Agree, if its a second car doesn't matter about the age of the car with Hagerty.

Just a word of warning about 'classic insurance'. I had insured my previous second car, an MG, on classic insurance for three years at a very reasonable rate. When I bought the Chim I couldn't transfer the insurance because the company was an MG specialist and I was told I had acquired no NCB despite my not having made a claim. The classic insurance had a clause that said no NCB arose (and presumably this was reflected in the low cost of the insurance). I eventually put the Chim on an ordinary full comp policy with a two year NCB 'introduction'.
I'm not saying don't go for classic insurance but do check if you accrue NCB and if you don't then go into it with your eyes open.

I am with classicline, whilst they dont "use" NCB, should you move away they will honour any NCB you would have built whilst with them,,,

One word - Hagerty, whether you were unfortunate enough to own an MG or not.
