Quick Question, Is the main bolt that scures the front pulley to the crank shaft left or right hand thread ?
Cheers

Thanks, thought I'd just check as it doesn't want to move.

It torques to some ridiculous setting (300ftlb springs to mind but don't quote me) so I'm none too surprised it is reluctant to move. A 6ft scaffold pole may be useful.

I was intrigued by a post regarding this on the Griff forum couple of months back,
the guy was having a real mare, unfortunately as happens sooooo many times the thread fizzled without
telling how it ended up IIRC. Try a search - note to you and me !
Sorry, Im a Divv, just searched and it was a sheared one he was trying to remove the remains of, having said that
I guess theres a tale to be warey of !, and back to my original point the thread was not conclusive.

It's around 140-160 lbft, but you need to be careful because it has to be done up tight to stop the pulley fretting, but apparently you only need to overtighten it by a small amount to snap it.

Finally got it off, took the 6 smaller bolts off first, leaving the rear part still on the end of the crank then cut a piece of flat steel and drilled it to pick up on the 6 bolts, welded a piece of tube to this that passed through the chassis on either side. Socket, long breaker bar, a friendly little tap with the lump hammer and it finally came undone. Fitted trigger wheel for mega-squirt ecu and re-assembled, cheers for the advise about over tightening.

Just taken mine off last week, the book figure for torque was 270lbsft. Fortunately mine was not done up this tight and a 3ft breaker bar was more than a mach for it.

Are you sure? I thought it was as V8S stated. You're not thinking of 270 Nm/s are you? Worth checking before you replace it

I double checked the figure last year when I had the front end apart. I think it was 170 lb ft which I'm told was a slight reduction on previous recommendations. Make sure you use a new bolt too.
