ideaEvenin' all, does anyone know if anyone makes an aftermarket loom for the chimaera that irons out some out of it's weakness's, as i've got the engine out at the moment and it seems like a good time to look at this option and i've been having 'issues' with the original set up, all contributions gratefully recieved!

What are the weaknesses on the loom apart from earth points...oh and all the wires that paul cut through (joke)?

The connectors blocks (well water & corrosion thereof) need protection. Some 'bag' them, but I'm firmly in the pack with vaseline or electrical grease camp cos I dont like the idea of trapped water

I shall reasurrect (how do you spell that) my original thread and put some new pics on it.
dont want to say too much on here as i dont want to hijack someone elses thread with my own shenanigans...lets just say i am getting an oxy-accetylene cutting torch this weekend...just to speed the process up a bit more...and to heat up the wishbones to drive the bushes out!!!

Ok - good point...i did take some pictures of the electrical connectors on the inside of the doors and behind the carpet where the door locks are....i have made up a nice ally cover to go round the fuel pump as well for when that is re fitted to protect the electrics on that...and the fuel filter is being relocated as well.

I could not compete with your scale of butchery, my old fruit, i'm just looking at the fact that i've had lots of electrical niggles which have been down to the original tvr wires, and while the engine is out seemed like a good time to replace if viable!!

Theres only 4 TVR specific wires I can think of in the engine bay.... (Otter / Oil Press/ 2xalt) are'nt the rest part of the std LR loom.

Thanks for that Dave, i understood the 'hot-start' mod was needed down to having poor wiring in the first place, and my problems are in the fuel pump/ starter circuits which i understood were tvr?

OK, I dont think those problems are associated with the loom (the actual wires are normally OK) ~ rather how the car is wired up with regard to the alarm/immob & 'soggy' location of some of the connections. An upgrade of the starter wire (white/red IIRC) might be worthwhile. Mainly the other upgrade is extra wire to the fans (but engine out doesnt really help..) You can make sure the earths to the front & the chassis - engine (scross the engine mount) are nice & clean & protected (vaseline / elec grease...).

Someone I know used to put relays near the starter - but its much better in the cabin area (my personal pref is one of the spare locations in the aux relay panel under the dash)

You could run a cable over the rear wheel arch as a spare fuel pump feed - there have been reports of bad connector embeded in the door sill but not many. Problems mainly seem to be alarm/immob or bad connections.

Neither of these areas are particularly aided just cos the engine is out
