Well I eventually decided to take the plunge and get the cherry bomb conversion done, even though I couldn't find one to listen to first. The anticipation is starting to get to me! It's going in tomorrow, for collection Saturday.
Ever since I booked it in the car has sounded pathetic - I can barely hear it...dunno what all the fuss is about TVRs being loud!

I think it's £150 + VAT at Offords, plus of course a tank of fuel as it's about 120 miles from me!

I had this done by Offords end last year - you will get the biggest when you fire it up for the first time.

Just had the Offords conversion done last week. Its been said before but I doubt there is a better way to spend £150 on your TVR!!! The sound is amazing, plus some superb pops and bangs on overrun. When sitting in the car it sounds like distant mortar fire in a BBC live from Iraq news report.

You will love it!!!
and the great news, it gets better with age. I have done about 8k miles since i had mine done at Offords last summer, and i swear it is louder and gives more pops and cracks on the overrun now.

Out of interest i had the noise tested at Castle Combe last week - 107db at 4500 revs.
It took a set of insert silencers and external mufflers to get down to an acceptable 96db.

more of a "badass nascar" sound is on the to-do list on mine.

So you will be wanting the 'no pre-cat straight thru exhaust' then...not the quiet cherry bomb system hehe

i was thinking more like, no pre cats, no cat, no silencer, just straight through kinda badass nascar sort of thing. or is that going too far???

I have only got the main cat left...and while my chim is in pieces i might be taking that out as well...if your going to do it you might as well do it right...cherry bombs have baffles in them so you dont get quite as much benefit...although it still sounds nicer than standard.

I had the cherry bomb conversion done a couple of weeks ago at Offords. For £165, it was money well spent.thumbup
Not sure on no cats/silencers/baffles at all.. there is such a thing as going to far.

Seriously though, you won't be disappointed.

That's it now, I've lost all motivation to do anything this afternoon...all I can think about is what it's gonna sound like!
God I need to pull myself together.

Hi Ian wavey, long time no see. I can't wait to see that SC of yours in the flesh.

I got Dave at Tower View Racing www.t-v-r-services.co.uk/ to make up the inserts.Cost about £100. I wasn't sure how much they would reduce the noise, but knew that Castle Combe are sticklers.

Sadly, they only brought me down to about 103db - BUT, spookily enough, there is a business called Merlin Motorsport www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/EXHAUSTS-MERLIN-SILENCERS-Silencers/c223_228_230/index.html

based in the circuit down there, and they had the external mufflers. It looks like you can buy them on't t'internet. All you need is the diameter of your exhaust pipe. Cut a slot along the length of the muffler pipe, and clamp it on with an exhaust clamp - it worked well all day for me.

Having already shelled out for the track day and the inserts, i just closed my eyes and bought these as well - another £100ish - but that is me now set up for pretty much any track.

Hope this helps. If you want to try/borrow the kit, give me a shout (PM me through Ph)
Hopefully catch up with you soon
Cheers, David

yikes
Inserts are not really for you me thinks. I have heard that Jellison on here has made some adjustable mufflers. It may be worth having a word with him if you seriously want to get down under 100db

Just wondering..............idea

Which would you recommend, Sleeving or Cherries? Does anybody know of a reputable garage in the NW around the Manchester/Sheffield are to do either?

Or should I just take it To Ian at TVRTorque to be sorted...........

What exactly does it entail ?? Cutting the end off the tail pipes and adding cherry bombs on the end or more than that ??

Thank you VERY much David!

I don't have a track day lined up yet but when I do I might impose on you if I may for a loan of said kit. Do you think the Mufflers would have worked on their own or do you think you need both the Mufflers and the Inserts? I'd come and get it and whilst there let you have a go of the SC to let me know what you think.

They open up the silencer box, remove the perforated pipe, replace with Cherry Bombs, repack the wadding and seal it all up again. The exhaust is droppped and the operation is performed from above, so there is no visible sign that it has been done.
