What was that about not getting to involved:rolleyes:

started out removing precats ha ha,so far bonnet off manifolds and y piece off along with the rest of the system, rad out, complete steam wash of chassis and engine, all because i want to treat chassis area under manifolds, and in my opinion this is the only way to do all the tubes properly, ended up manifolds and y piece removed and painted, rad matt blacked & new mounts, fans cleaned, new coolant silicon hoses inc air inlet pipes, stainless body bolt kit(everything you can see)new horns, new headlights, new braided brakehoses with dot 5.1,polished ali swirl pot & expansion bottle, temp gauge resistor mod, painted and treated wishbones, new anti roll bar montings and painted bar,new earth straps and new cable ties everywhere,oh yeh and put it all back together, sheeesh and i was only supposed to be painting the top tubes under the manifolds cause they were peeling,AndyW you were right stay focused and i went blind Doh and dug myself in.
I read posts like this with a certain amount of volcanic jealousy.
I'd love to know how to do all this sort of stuff but have no idea about anything above basic maintenance. I know the theory but no experience and a fear of coking it up in a big and expensive way makes such projects prohibitive.

You mechanical gurus ought to think about hiring a hangar for a weekend, getting some Chim Forum regulars along with their cars and doing a refurb course with them. I know I'd pay good money for it!

Nuggs & Midas dude,i know some of us take this stuff for granted, trouble is i do this all day long on run of the mill cars,so sometimes its hard to strike up infusiasm for your own car, swings and roundabouts i guess, just remember your never to old to learn and you dont learn without making some mistakes(i am perfect though goes without saying)
i will try to post some photo,s soon,as soon as those hoses turn up im on the job late nights as well,i must admit i have broke this jobs back with all the cleaning and prepping(the worst part)its just a matter matter of getting it all done now, thanks for the support

That sounds like a cracking idea! I would pay good money too
I'm the same as you Nuggs....love the idea of getting stuck into doing a major job on ones P&J but am too afraid of cocking it up and not having someone around to ask for guidance & advice. The satisfaction of doing a job yourself must be amazing! Someone on PH's would surely be up for a refurb weekend away....it could be combined as a social event too
Frazer i think you may be selling yourself short somewhere, you must have learned something in those 18mths,Citroen an Suzuki are quite a bit more advanced than your car working on these cars is not rocket science,in fact i find there mechanicals very unstimulating, but working on the car time consuming,i am not having a pop at the cars though,in fact i love there simplicity, and you should not be afraid to get stuck in,theres a lot of talk about these cars being specialist and complicated (racing cars almost)thats b*llocks and probably spouted by those that know very little about TVR

Christ That Daddy how long did all that take?
I know the while I'm at it I might as well... syndrome only too well. Been poking around my chassis for ages now while the exhaust is off...
Mega impressed mate
For the rest of the guys, start with something small, and work your way from there. Ask as many daft questions as you need to here, we're all in the same boat (well actually, my boat is better looking than yours
) and will help with advice and people even volunteer helping hands on occasion. Read as many things as you can before you start too.
My philosophy is to buy any kit I need for a job because its cheaper this time and free next time and if it goes tits up, I'll hand it over to a pro and let him sort it out. I've learned enormously like this which for a computer geek shows it aint really that difficult - well, not until you get to engines, then I'm done for!
Remember, a you can do just as good a job as a pro when it involves bolting and unbolting, it just takes longer

Making you jealous...???
The lucky
has nearly got his car out back on the road...!!! That Daddy
and theres me thinking i had broke the back of it with only the underside of the chassis to weld up now....

No but seriously Andy how you getting on? Both out riggers welded up on the top side along with new tubes going from the main chassis rails to the corner on both the fronts.
Top tube wishbone mount has been cut and a new peice tack welded in. i shall weld that up tonight, then i can turn the chassis over, weld all the joins underneath and make two new plates for the corners for the body to bolt on to.
Need to make some new seat belt brkts as well as the threads on the ones i took off are well best their sell by date.
I have got a nice 5 days off from tomorrow so i am going to hit it hard. The chassis is nearly finished and i have been using the oxy-aceteylene to burn all the powder coating off (crap job that is!) and been checking for any potential holes that might appear when it gets blasted.
Plan is to have it at the shot blasters on tuesday.
I have polished the brake pipes up...sad i know but i couldnt resist.
Then while the chassis is at the blasters i am going to strip out the bushes and prep the wishbones anti roll bars and all the other bits and pieces for blasting/coating.

Fitting some lovely ACT silicone hoses etc is something that I'm really keen to do.
How easy is it for a mechanical numpty to do, that daddy? Any chance of some piccies and pointers as you go?
Thanks!
