I'm planning on getting a Chimeara this year. Does the new tax rates effect them as I'm not totally au faix with what the govt's plans are? I'm still going to get one whatever but just curious

Presumably you mean the new band at £300 pa, rising to £400 pa next year? No it doesn't affect your Chimaera. You'll be paying £99 for six months or £180 pa.

I was pleasantly surprised that the tax was only £180 yesterday, for a year, but to be honest if it was £300 or £400, I'd have paid it. Not been happy but I'd have paid it. When you own a car like this you don't mind paying for things and truth is it's actually a pretty cheap performance car to run.

I'm happy.

I agree, so far I have bought something for mine almost every week (as well as a load of 99RON). But once you take the very low depreciation into account, its virtually the same as owning a new Mundano or some other boring box.

Indeed. I pay the same £180 TAX for my 5.0, 15-20mpg Chimaera as I do for my 1.9 TDi 50mpg Passat. Still, it IS all about the environment..

Still, which puts out more pollution over the year...? For most people owning 2 cars like that, it'll be the work car/daily driver...

But that's accounted for in the extra fuel duty paid surely?

What if, my missus uses one and I use the other?!?!?!?

Let's face it, it is a complete farce to claim that Road Tax is based on pollution when you see the above, is it not?
