Hi,

I'm hoping to upgrade from the 'S' to a Chimera in the near future. Just have one query at the moment.. did they ever put power steering in the Chimera? If so, when from? Cheers.

Please feel free to provide any other advice that you feel a potential Chimera owner should know!

Having just spent the last 5 months figuring stuff out about Chims...
1) Yes they do (PAS), unsure of dates. No PAS isn't an issue though.
2) Buy a copy of The Bible. Or rather the griff and chim bible.
3) Condition is everything.
4) Green is the fastest colour.
5) There are a lot on the market, so take your time. But when the right one comes along, take it!
6) Outriggers, waxoil, blah blah blah.
7) Enjoy your search, but enjoy the car more!

Mine is a 96 and it has power steering - think it was an option but not sure how early you could get it. It also drips fluid from time to time but thats another issue.

Not sure if it is fitted to any pre-serpentine cars (95ish?) but the majority of cars after that seem to have it. Certainly isn't hard to find one with PAS.

'The Bible' states: "PAS is an option on the Griff 500 and Chimaeras but the Griff 4.x cars were all fitted with non-PAS."

If you want power steering they are easy to find.If you fall for one without then its about £1k-1.5k to have it fitted. You may like it without - like me.

It was always an option on serpentine cars, never a standard fitment. However the increase in "city boy" TVR's coincided with the change to serp; make of that what you will. There are certainly plenty of non-PAS serp cars about.

I dont have power steering, which is fine mostly but parking can be a problem sometimes. I'm sure PS would make for a more relaxing drive but maybe not so kart-like.

Just got my first Chim and it hasn't got PAS, didn't even think about it to be honest. Its fine when driving and certainly feels good but as has been said already its pretty stiff when parking.
