Could this be used in the Rover V8 engine, whats the differences in diesel oil over petrol??

Only reason is my mate gets it free from work so was thinking oil/filter changes for free every 2000/3000 miles...

Thanks

A lot of yank V8 owners swear buy diesel motor oil on the older units, most good quality diesel synthetic oils far exceed what the RV8 needs anyway and that grade should be fine, some swear my thicker say 10/50 i have no oil burning issues or problems with 5/40 fully syn,but i am going over to silkolene shortly.

I believe TCS has done a 'mod' that is specifically designed to allow use of this type of fluid.

Sounds like a winner then, gonna start stock piling it for regular changes.

As oil is no free and filters cost pence would changing the oil every 3000 miles be an advantage over the 6000 or is it not worth it.

Cheers

Always puzzled me this one, the 5-50 Synth I was looking at in France last year was less than half the price of a UK one. It even had the A3/B3 grading for sports/performance cars but was badged as a diesel oil confused, bought it anyway hehe.

Several years ago i had a conversation with an oil company salesman who told me that the petrol and diesel oils (ie both 15w40) where exactly the same product except the diesel oil had a dye added and they called it a diesel oil.
Why?, because diesel owners would not put "petrol engine oil" in there diesels !!!!!!!
and we could charge a bit more for it.
things have changed a bit since then but if you compare the specifications the do still appear to be virtually identical.
ps sorry to use the "D" word so often ,
except for when i've got the roof off and i'm stuck behind an old bus grumpy

I believe some diesel oils have higher detergent chemicals.
