Hello all!

Had a wicked day thrashing around in my new Chim!! Absolutely love it!!

Just a quickie (being new to Chim Ownership) what should the oil pressure guage be reading on a normal run around? Mine tends to hover around 30 psi...

Also spotted an Orange Chim in Tring today - anyone on here own it? Looked fantastic!!!

Mine stays 15 - 20ish, apart from yesterday in a 55 minute inching forward traffic jam...where it dropped to bugger all eek - along with a temp of 90 eek

It was OK though

That's similar to my 19k 500.

90 deg in a 55 minute jam is good.
The pressure drop to 0 is a bit alarming

Thanks for the advice!

Can't believe what a good car I've found, everything including the electric mirrors are working! Its amazing! I even witnesses the Ice warning light coming on the other night - on a ten year old car I can't believe this stuff still works!

Anyone know how long you car leave the car alarmed and locked without draining the battery?

I was crapping myself paperbag

When I said '0' I mean below 15...but both the dials need a tap to remember that they have a job.

Mine's dropped to zero a few times, leaving me trying to find a sfae place to pull-over in a brown trousered sort of a way. Then it started dropping below zero (negative oil pressure - my car was defying physics). Then it started going beyond the max reading.

Then I got my sender changed at it's behaved ever since!

Like all the dials on my Chim, I'm not convinced at all by its accuracy in any case...

I've left mine in the garage for 3 weeks locked and alarmed and when i got in it started first time no probs...................these cars are for driving not sitting in a garage.

Mine stays pretty steady on 40 to 45 when driving and hovers between 17 and 20 on tick over when warm. Spoke to a local V8 specialist some time ago and he said that good oil flow was more important than pressure.

In a 150BHP RV8 you probably don't need pressure. The oils that retain pressure when warm (and the pumps ability to keep the pressure) will spurt/spray better from orifices and much more effectively cool & lubricate important parts IMHO.

Please dont take that gauge reading as accurate(bloody useless, but mine dont seem to bad)if your ever in doubt put a mechanical test unit on to verify, mine says 10psi hot idle, 35psi hot cruising, when infact the true reading is 20psihot,42cruising hot, this is with a proper bluepoint pressure tester kit,i checked this after seeing the gauge drop to about 5psi after a fast run last summereek

Mine doesn't go below 30, how good is that ??!! Actually its stuck and won't drop below 30 but will go above when revved or driving along. Might have to tap a little harder......

scratchchin I did check all connections were correct and secure when the dash was off....mind you tvr gauges are a laugh anyway. The pressure in that engine is absolutely fine matey, as is the coolant system. thumbup panic ye not.

Good advice again. Have checked the level and it reads full and the oil looks very new considering it was serviced 7 months ago. I suppose it has only covered 2k since. Does or should the oil be looking dirty by the next service?

scratchchinPresumably, if the oil pressure does drop to zero - it's a matter of seconds until the engine lunches itself?

If that's right, then unless you keep your eyes glued to the gauge, it's unlikely to be of much help in that situation?

How old is your battery, scratchchin
What condition is it in, scratchchin
Is it the right one (there is a cheaper, lower spec battery that fits!!)
I dare say you'll find out what is "too long" sooner or later
