19" alloys on a Chim???
Discussion
Would these 19" alloys work on a chimaera or are they too big?

Has anyone fitted 19"s on theirs?

Go and find a heavy hard backed book. Take it into the kitchen
Now unbutton your fly and place your pathetic member on the kitchen worktop.
Raise the book above your head and bring it down with as much force as you can muster onto your exposed member.
Repeat this action again and again until the desire to put 19 inch wheels on your car subsides.

I'm picking up my new Chimaera 500 in a couple of weeks and was also thinking about new wheels. The only problem is, i promised myself not to ruin the car going silly with mods etc. The Chimaera's handle very well on the 16" wheels but im wondering what they fell like on 17's and what size tyres etc you guys would recomend? TIA

schizophrenic?
Maybe but he's never without someone to talk to.
This is always a compromise between handling and looks. Your car will look better as rim size increases but handling becomes compromised by the same process. It's simple, your car needs sidewalls that allow the tread to move laterally without pulling the rim and your sprung suspension does not have a soft initial bump to compensate for potholes, etc. Sidewalls flex to follow the sideways pull of tracks in the road and where tyres sometimes follow the white lines. As sidewall height reduces so does the cars ability to absorb this sideways pull. Tramlining will result. The ability of sidewalls to absorb small bumps from poor road surfaces stops the front wheels from reacting through the steering. Reduce this ability and the small bumps in the road will transmit to the rim and cause bump steer.
In my opinion you can stretch to 17 front and possibly 18 rear and get away with it. On really rough country roads you will be compromised but not by much.
Ask yourself, did you buy the car because you wanted to look good or because you wanted a good drive.

There's an interesting article in this month's 'Sprint' A guy with a beautiful Green Griff went upto 18" Spiders - they looked amazing but he eventually took them off and went back down to 16" all round for improved ride and handling. Bigger wheels do look better but I'd rather not compromise too much on the way it behaves on the road.
