As I am a complete tart and managed to get some engine bits cleaned up and polished at the weekend, I've decided it would be really nice to have some poncy rocker covers. I'm thinking either painted, or (ideally) chrome plated type efforts...

Anyone know whether such items exist and where a chap intent on engine-bay-related willy waving might acquire the said items?

Thanks allthumbup

Save yourself some cash and buy some tools (sort of at the same time) - bench grinder and polishing kit! Sand them down, then polish 'em Bob's your mums brother!

Check eBay, there are regularly chrome ones on there. You can get Edelbrock ones with a conversion kit, or you often see Rover ones polished, painted or chromed. Just be sure they have the filler cap in the right end. There was recently (may still be) a set of chrome ones which were identical, which would put either your filler cap or flame trap at the back of the engine - which won't work in a Chim.

These look like the proverbial canine's undercarriage:

Although don't look like they have the flame trap/oil filler in the right place. Anyone have any ideas as to suitability?

you could always take yours off and get them polished...it would probably only cost £20-£30 to get them polished...or you could DIY...fine grade wet'n'dry, lots of elbow grease and Autosol????

But in their natural state, they are a real bugger to keep clean. At least chrome plating will be relatively easy to keep shiny

Chrome plating on aluminium is never very successful. It looks good but it doesnt last as long as plating on mild steel.

Once the rocker covers are polished get them stove enamelled with a clear coating.
Still think once they are polished it shouldnt be that difficult to keep them clean. I am going down the route of having mine coated red or black and then polishing the raised surfaces on the rocker covers and the plenum.

Good knowledge.

The coating/polishing method does look good - will you do it yourself or do you have someone lined up to do it for you?

I knew our paths would cross again, even though the week deadline for the concours Chimaera has long gone, would you mind letting me know who is doing your stove enammelling as i have a pair of covers that need doing!
