Hi guys - I've been doing car detailing for a number of years and looking to set up my own business, concentrating on specialist detailing.

What I'm looking for are some classic cars (ie TVR Chims - especially dark colours) for examples of my work. Also I would need owners I could use for reference, assuming you're happy with my work!

If you're in the Gloucester / Bath area (or around), then send me a PM if you're interested and I can give you more info about what I can do (as long as you're happy with me using photo's of your P&J for my portfolio).

As an ex-Chim owner, I have a passion for TVR - that and they're smaller cars to work on biglaugh

Anyhow - if you want a really shiny car (wash, claybar, machine polish, seal, wax etc..) then get in touch and I'll let you know more about what I'm looking for.

Cheers

Spray the Quik Detailer that comes with the clay onto the body work (it acts as a lubricant) and then rub the clay over the car.

Not of itself. Its job is to take all the previous wax and any crap off the paintwork. It provides you with a great base on which to apply polish and wax.

It's well worth it - the results are truly awesome. If you're going to spend time and money polishing the car, then you owe it to yourself to do it properly and clay it first.

There's a review of the Meguiar's Clay in my profile if you're interested.

Hi Ian - I have a Cooper Green 97 Chim 400 which could provide you with what you are looking for. Whilst I'm not in Gloucestershire I am only in Worcestershire and can easily get down to Gloucester. PM me with your contact details and maybe we can sort something out?

Nick, Sorry I didn't reply - been quite busy
Nuggs is right

You do get different grades of clay and some are more abrasive than others, the Meguiars (grey) is fairly mild and also fairly safe. If you've never "clayed" your car before then the results are impresive - remember tho if you drop it on the floor (which is easy if you don't use enough lubricant) then chuck it away!!

You can buy the Meguiars in Halfrauds by the way!

Hi guys - thanks for your responses.
I've had stacks of interest and can't afford to do any more "freebies"
If you are still interested, then get in touch and I'll let you know what I can do - I'm going to do a few at reduced rates just to get things up and running.

NB I'm basically offering 2 services: a detail and a concours (the concours is very thorough and would include taking the wheels off, Rain-X, Glaze, Sealants, protecting the undersills and arches etc...) Obviously paintwork and the depth of shine is one of the main things I concentrate on.

I can't fill in stonechips, but if you had touchup paint, then you could blob it in the stone chips and I can polish it down for you! You'd need a couple of days for it to harden so I couldn't do that on the day.

If you live a distance away then I'd have to take travelling into account, but if there's 2 people close then we might be able to sort something out and I have a colleague I can bring along which would allow us to do more than 1 in a day (with 2 people).

Anyhow thanks for the offers guys - I'll get some pics up when I figure out how to do clever stuff like that

Right o' I'll try my first picture posting

This is a car I did on the weekend - not perfect (could have done with another few hours to completely correct) but gives you an idea of 4 (plus) hours work - also afraid the resolution makes it a bit gritty, I'm just being picky now, but then that's what I get paid for!!

Hi Ian, good luck with your new venture - judging from the pic's above you do a great job! Quick question... how do you polish down teh blobs of paint when filling stone chips. I've tried everything but never seem to get it right!

Looks quite nice Ian, but to be honest, I would take some more shots with a better camera/film as I would hazard a guess that the pic is doing no justice to the end result... And the pic is all us lot can go by

I can't honestly tell whether that paint is flat or metallic?

If you want to try it yourself, get hold of a product call "Langka" you can get it from a company called Frost - do an internet search and you'll find it OK - regards Ian

Good point - thanks.
I had to reduce the size of the pic so it would fit on the thread, I'll get some more pics next of closer up shots - I was just trying to show an overall idea of the reflections you can get.
Watch this space, I'll get some better pics just for you next time

Ian take a look at the quality of some of the pics people post on the photography section and/or look at specialist car detailing web sites there are some really high quality images there to give you an idea of the standard that can be achieved... with the photography that is
