Intermittent starter - help!

Starting my Chim 500 is now like Russian roulette - usually OK but in last 24 hours it has let me down badly. Seems OK when you turn the key - ignition lights work, petrol pump primes, engine turns over but no electricity to the coil. Leave it for long enough and if lucky it will start normally. Any bright ideas?
