I have a chim 400 and love the noise but its a bit tame, Heard a chim at weekend that gurggled and roared perfectly, got told he had took it to a garage that opened up the silencer and did summet then welded it back up but it costs £300. Any body know what they do to the silencer for that money?

thumbup Offords in Cambridge do a conversion for £160:00.

Basically they remove the system, cut open the silencer from the top, remove the perforate pipe/wadding and install two cherry bombs. The wadding is replaced and the silencer is welded back up and system fitted back to the car. All done in 2-3 hours and the best money I have spent for massive grin factor. A lovely V8 burble at tick over which turns into a vicious howl at 4000 RPM and over! smokin

Anyone know where I could get the cherry bombs on their own? Going from what you just said, I could get a mate (who is the best stainless steel welder around) to do that to my 96 400.

I am told that Demon Tweaks sell cherry bombs. I had the coversion done at the Offords and still think it is the best money I have spent on the car - just sounds fantastic hehe

I've owned two Chimaeras. One with the conversion, one without.

The noise is great on a short term basis. Fine if it's a second car used for short-ish journeys. If, like me, it's your everyday car used on long journies I'd advise against it.

Anyone local to me have the Cherrybomb conversion, would love to hear a car running it? I am based in Rossendale, work in Manchester? I am seriously thinking about this. Heard a fantastic Chim at the weekend, it had the pre-cats removed and sleaved exhausts, that thing would wake the dead. Sounded brilliant but very loud, perhaps too loud for me (?). The girlfriend hates getting in the car as it is, though that could be my driving Wondered if the cherrybombs might by the way to go, get a better and louder sound, but maybe not too loud?

Having had the Chim for over just over two years, Im interested in having someting "done" to the exhaust.
-Is the cherry bomb the only option???
-Does it JUST increase the noise??
-If so by how much??...say for example a "normall" chim exhaust is a 6 out 10 for noise what does it increase to?
im concered that it would be too loud on a long journey as Flintstone discribes

So is sleaving the exhaust different to the cherry bombs and if so what noise diff do you get, take it sleaving just meens you sleave the baffle tubes in the silencer
