Haven't used the car for a couple of weeks but I noticed the fuel pump was pretty noisy today

Keeps whirring and then stopping then whirring again etc

It did not used to sound like this

Had a service less than 2000 miles ago when filter was changed

Also I get a whiff of petrol when I open the boot

Any ideas

thanks

Loose connection? If it's starting and stopping... or perhaps an ill fitting or duff relay. As for the smell, the link here seems to be the filter. perhaps the jubilee clips need nipping up a bit. Somewhere to start anyway.

Mine also makes quite a noticeable buzz - not sure if this is normal(?), although may explain the code 23 (low fuel pressure) I keep getting on my code reader (this may also be due to blocked injectors / faulty lambdas though)!

Thanks for replies...been off-line for a couple of days

Will check the connectors this weekend...I did have a breakdown a couple of years ago when one the connectors fell off

I've got MOT coming up so if not connector I will try and get a fault code check at the same time.

I do find the car shunts a bit at low revs

Suppose low fuel pressure could be pump is on its way out.

The fuel filter located near the pump does need replacing every couple of years. When did you last change it or have it changed ?? Sadly it does get ignored as it's a pain to get at (rear nearside above driveshaft area), plus there's always a splash of the stuff when removing !!
