Firstly when I have the roof off and go above 70 mph the top windscreen rubber comes off and flaps around. Does anybody know what adhesive I would use to stick it back on properly???

Secondly I moved my car off the drive and to my dismay saw a large patch of oil. Having wriggled underneath the car I noticed the oil was leaking from the sump plug, which had worked itself undone.Has this happened to anyone else before? The car had been serviced at Offords a few weeks ago, is it just a case that it wasn't put back on tight enough? I am slightly concerned because had I not noticed, the plug could have come out mid drive and caused untold damage.

Thanks,
Paulo

Sometimes the sump plug can come undone by scraping against things like speed humps in the road. The plug is quite expossed and it only takes a small nock to turn them. As for your window rubber, give your local Autoglass centre a bell and aske their advice. They use a black rubber silicon sealer maybe they'll stick it back down for you

Sikkaflex.

May not have tightened it up properly - fit new copper washers to the sump whenever they are only a few pence compared to the cost of oil... Splitter is a good safeguard / warning against grounding sump :snigger:

Do not use normal silicon sealer for the windscreen, it'll just come off. As mentioned above, use Sikaflex or equivalent. I've also heard good reports about Tiger Seal (Google it for supplier info).

For your windscreen rubber, I have used SikaFlex 552 Black commercially for sticking down similar things. 552 is a hybrid polyeurethane adhesive so it sticks to basically anything and wont eat the rubber. It is also self priming. Make sure you get 552 though. 252 may also do but its not a hybrid so doesnt stick to as many substrates. Dont get 221 or 291 or anything else ending in 1, (in my experience, people will tell you that its basically the same but it isnt, these are sealants). Also make sure you ask for Black, it comes in loads of colours. You can get it from some Grahams builders merchants or a coachbuilding suppliers. I imagine thats what TVR used in the first place. Should be about £5 a tube.

Many thanks for the replies everybody. Much appreciated.
Thinking about it, I drove down a road which was being resurfaced so I think I probably caught the sump on an exposed man hole cover where the tarmac has been stripped.
That Steve Heath sump plug looks like a wise investment.
Cheers,
Paulo.

The sump plug is a fairly common thing to come loose - though damned expensive if it does it at the wrong time. It's certainly something I keep a check on periodically.
If your about the first weekend in May I don't mind catching up to share some tips (and to have a nose at a white Chim), I'm not the most technically adept person in the world but have learnt a couple of things in my 2 years of ownership. I know there that other chap who lives up Parsonage Lane way as well so maybe we could have a mini Stortford meet?

Best to get a magnetic one from Steve Heath , they have round edges as well so not easy to knock with hex drive key central. Also the washer is nylon recessed in the face of the plug £10 happy days !.

First weekend in May....that'll be the bank holiday weekend then.
I used to live in Stortford, Wentworth Drive, Mum still lives there (up near the Tescos).
If I'm visiting my mum I'll come along for a quick chin wag

Typical, I move out of town and three appear!!

Unfortunately not as I've been 'told' we're off to the in-laws for the weekend.
I will however be gatecrashing the Essex CC meet the Sunday after along with the guys from the Herts and Beds region - see any of you there?

Apologies internet access is sporadic at the moment, I will be up for Monday but probably won't have access to internet over the weekend. If you guys manage to thrash out a time and venue I shall have a check on Monday and be sure to meet you chaps out. Just a thought but the Waggon and Horses may be a mutually convenient venue?

Cheers,
Paulo.

What sort of time? I'm back very early morning Monday morning, so after lunch would be better, even if it's to pop along, say hi, have a quick drink and push off again.
