Boxsters are 10 a penny, when's the last time you went anywhere and didn't see several on your journey.
As for the Z3M, unless you're really in the know, it's too easily confused with the lower powered hairdressers version. And it isn't very good looking (IMO). Also, BMW seems to have become the new Volvo. It used to be that whenever you see someone doing something stupid, they were driving a Volvo, these days it's invariably a BMW.
It's up to you I suppose, but if you do decide to sell, your loss will be someone else's gain!

Surely there's an element of soul to be considered here. Beemers et al are all mass produced, soul-less creations that have no real personality. TVRs and other limited production jobbies are built with heart and no little compromise. Instead of changing, why not make your Chim something really special with some upgrades? Assuming yours in standard now, would you still want to change it if it had more power, a fruity exhaust, a modded interior and sorted suspension and brakes?

Every time I have been out in the Chimp, and seen another TVR, they have always said hello. Can you imagine being treated like a band of brothers in some souless German box?

Then there's the noise.... yes, 6 pots sound great, but it's missing two cylinders...

I had an 05 Boxster for a month as a courtesy car whilst my Chim was having some bodywork done on it. TBH it is a nice car, very easy to drive, quick, handles well and very well built. It saved my bacon the morning after a night before when I was feeling very fragile and Ill. I had a 100 mile journey home and I couldn't have done that in the Chim which takes full concentration to drive. The girlfriend also like it.
However, there were a number of downsides - firstly when you're sat in the drivers seat it looked so bland. Cover up the Porsche badge on the steering wheel and you could have been in almost any sporty car, it just didn't feel bespoke and special, well built yes but just bland.
Secondly - it was quick and handled very well (better than the Chim) but was totally lacking in soul/fun. The car drove you rather than the other way round.
Thirdly - the noise, yes they do sound OK but NOTHING like the hair tingling noise of a V8.
Fourth - Other Porsche drivers are the most miserable gits you'll ever come across. Not one returned a wave and 911 drivers will look down their noses at you.
Fifth - The Chim just gets so much more attention - Boxsters are ten a penny but I can drive hundreds of miles without seeing another TVR.
The Boxster is a very capable sports car and a very good choice, but more fun than a TVR - HELL NO!!
Why not look at a Cerb or Tuscan instead?

Why confused

I am on my second Griff 500 and don't let anyone kid you otherwise, Porsche are superbly built cars.

For all the piss taking about Boxsters, the 'S', certainly the newer ones, are more than a match for the Chimaera on both handling and every day performance (170 top end).

I would seriously suggest you drive one then at least you will have the first hand facts rather than a load of sentimentally subjective, sometimes insulting, and mostly inaccurate opinions

(that doesn't include Zippee's quite objective one that was posted as I was typing)

this thread may help

I know, i know, iv been through all this in my head already, the Porsche some people think, (not me) is bland to look at, and they are 10 a penny, and everyone will say i bought it because i could not afford a 911. (which would be true) but that dont make it a bad car or choice. The Z3M is a good car but could get confused with the hairdresser version i agree, and that does worry me a little, you are definatly all man in a TVR hehe
I have thought about a 4.5 Cerb but the reason for Chim is its convertable and that`s a big thing for me.
So im still confused somebody come round and punch

Guys. Everyone has their preference...and I'm lucky enough to be able to enjoy both cars regularly. You've got to pick what does it for you - and which car delivers on the driving experience given the type of motoring you do personally.

I track my BoxS regularly so the handling etc really matters to me. On road the Chimaera makes a marginally better overtaking tool, for example.

One shouldn't write off either car. What's best for one person will be no good for another - but they're both cracking drives - and as different as its possible to make two roadsters...

I had this disscusion with Don yesterday on the Porcshe forum, and he put some valid points across for both vehicles, as he currently owns both. Like he said i need to go and test drive them and find out for myself what they are like. I am a little worried though, i might like both of them banghead

Don't take my previous comment the wrong way though - During my time with the Porsche I really did enjoy having it - to the point where after a month I seriously considered selling the Chim and buying one. However, I soon changed my mind when I got the TVR back and took her out for a few runs.
At the end of the day though it is all personal preference and whilst there is a lot of banter and piss take on here between the 2 marques I'm sure most owners respect the other cars abilities.

I've owned both. Both cars make you feel special in different ways.

A well sorted Chimp is going to feel much faster (straight line). When I first floored a 5 litre Tiv, I literally shouted out "Fu***ing hell!". And of course there's the noise!

Once you've driven both, I think the question you have to ask yourself is - "Do I want to drive the car every day?". If the answer is a definate 'Yes' - Boxster may be the better option. Also, do you enjoy fiddling with cars? If so, maybe a Chimp is good for you.

Finally - one more point for the Chimp. Park a Chimp next to a Boxster - look from the rear. Chimp wins.

Cheers.

8 years ago I owned a 4l Chimp, I bought one of the first Boxsters into the country, sold the chimp as I didn't need two cars. 89 days later I sold the Boxster back to Porsche as it just wasn't 44Ks worth of car. Last month I bought the Chimp back. There is no V8 sound, there is no character, you look like a man who can't afford a 911 and Boxsters are common on the roads.

Personally, if it was me I wouldn't be looking at the Z3M, but the M Roadster...

Gotta love the racing breadvan, and nobody's going to confuse it with the boggo Z3...

I just posted this on the Porsche forum.

i do think the TVR is quicker, more aggresive, louder, and more exclusive, as in i very rarely see another one when im out, and iv just been to a meeting in Derby, about 80 mile round trip and iv seen 3 Boxsters today, but as said the Porsche is a more all round car, bearing in mind when i got the TVR i insured it on a limited milage of 3000 a year, and iv done 3xs that so a more all round car might be better with the miles it will be doing.

Still thinking and banghead

Steve.

P.S I know i would have to change my login.
