Just wondering if you use Thompsons waterseal does it alter the finish of the hood e.g. make it shinier in appearance etc.

Possibly a bit darker, but not shiny at all.

Could one of you guys please let me know exactly what type of Thompson's waterproofer is the best one to use? Have a chimaera with a black roof and am currently on a mission to make it 100% water proof as it has to live outside.

Wouldn't want to cover it with the wrong stuff and have to replace the roof!!

Cheers.

Thompson's Water Seal. States that it is ok with canvas. Not worth getting the Gold or other versions.

No. So is mine. I've used Thompson's for years.

Going shiny is usually caused by owners not putting their roof in the bag and it moving about in the boot.

My roof is Red.
It may take it down a half tone but no appreciable difference.

Had a look at the Thompson's website and they only seem to do this one in aerosol format.

It's going to be fun keeping it off the windows and paint work. Assume that if any does stray onto the back window or paint it is easy to remove without any lasting effects.

So I guess that the next step is homebase to get some.

Don’t bother with the aerosol, just buy a big can and a nice expensive (it is for a TVR) synthetic paint brush.

Looks darker at first, but this soon disappears. Wipe off spill’s asap, its just easier if you don’t leave it.

Leave it overnight at least before you drive it, it stinks……

Cheers,

Simon.

Get down to your local B&Q, if I recall they do it in 1/2, and 1 litre tins, and bigger if required. There are two types of Thompson’s get the plain normal NOT THE ULTRA, I think it has stronger solvents.

Be aware! It does dry on the paint and screen if splashed, but can be wiped off with White Spirit.

It would be prudent not to get any on unwanted areas to begin with, so I for one would rule out the spray can approach.

Bag! Lost back in the mists of time I fear.

I just bought some Thomsons W.S. from Focus in Bracknell (in anticipation of getting my car back soon). It was with all the masonery stuff, so that's probably the area to look in if you can't find anyone to point you in the right direction.

Or you could use Fabsil - sold in camping shops.
