I thought that a 1 ton hoist would be enough but its 1 ton at the closest and 250Kg at 1.13 mtrs, so What sort of reach do I need, I suppose the lenght of the bonnet. So how long is the bonnet, 1.5 mtrs ??. if so I will be needing a 2 ton lift.
Hi Mr Pink Floyd sir, you rule!!!
Had my engine in and out last week using what sounds like a crane very similar to yours.
The reach on the 250KG is not long enough, I attached the crane to the front of the engine and pulled it as far forward as possible before attempting to lift it out.
Its even harder putting it back in as you have to man handle it back into roughly the right position for the mounts. I wouldn't try lifting the lot out, undo the 8 (I think) bolts which hold the bell housing to block so you can leave that and the gearbox in the car, If you want them out as well then do it from below.
Good luck with it and I hope you remember where all the wires, sensors and cable tie's go.
BTW engine and gearbox don't weigh more than 250, 200 max at a guess.
Just stripped my engine out this morning, down to trumpet base, and pas and alternalor + Brackets, then split gear box and lifted out, took 2 of us to carry to the van so engine stripped not that heavy. By the way look itout with the jack at the side of the car, one jacked at the other paulled forward to clear bulkhead.
