And another thing..... Does anyone know which clutch i need for my 5 litre, the 'standard one' was a borg and beck which i am having trouble sourcing, but i've also looked at the Mcleod Street and strip clutch which needs the standard flywheel re-drilling to fit( don't imagine this is cheap!)I am looking at continual upgrades for the engine so one that can take 300bhp would be useful, all contributions gratefully recieved!!

A gentleman from here running a supercharged 4.0 lump has a standard 5.0 clutch with that kind of horsepower, and isn't having any trouble with it. Don't know if that helps...

Standard 500 Clutch should be fine.
I thought the original was an AP not Borg n Beck.. am i wrong?

On the clutch front.. anyone know a good place to source, or have fitted.. Im in the Essex area and mine needs replacing in the next couple of weeks.

(sorry for the kinda hijack)

Nik

You're both right - it's a AP Borg & Beck clutch - TVR carparts supplied my last one.

Yes i'd seen these and was quite interested (very good price), but i would like to hear from anyone who has fitted one, as i don't trust just any clutch for my 5 litre

John - I've just fitted one of these to mine and it's not straight forward.

Firstly the clutch is about £260- from someone like :
http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/category.php?id=20

Then you need a good machine shop to skim the flywheel and centre and redrill the bolt holes (10.5 inch) original clutch in 9.5 inch.

Next - the release bearing has to be shortened my approx 10 mm as the new clutch is deeper by 10mm than the original .. so that has to be lathed too..

I should add you probably don't need this clutch unless you have a lot more than 300 bhp..

Mines all in and I'm hoping to start-up the engine this weekend.

Give v8 tuner or others (real steel, V8 dev etc) a call and discuss.

Thanks very much for that, Paul @ v8 tuner told me of the other mods needed for this clutch but as i am likely to carry on tweaking it could be a good investment, Incidentally did you change your clutch fork and release bearing when you did yours? Would you mind if i asked how much you were charged for the mods?

No problem.

My gearbox is a Leyland LT77.. retained the release arm as it looked OK (it's steel) and I replaced the bearing with the older non selfcentering bearing as the carrier is steel and I thing stronger that the plastic of the newer design.

I pay some one £35 to lathe off 10mm from the steel carrier (bearing end)..
