Hi Guys,

I first spotted the S series a few weeks ago, and loved it.
But slowly I am thinking of going for the chim? I trust alot of you may of bought an S then upped to a chim, so wondered if you have any thoughts on this with regards using the car as a main daily car?

Also, I am about to go touring the Garages etc to look for cars been sold, and wondered if anyone has a Top draw example of a chim in or near Birmingham? I live near the N.E.C, but would obviously come to meet you sometime for a quick lesson on what makes a good Chim

Cheers
pete

Best thing for you to do is go along to a TVRCC local regional meet - Warwickshire & West Midlands. Best place for some sound advice.

TVR Power is not far from you, Coventry Jc3. There is a rolling road day there Saturday so should be a few Chims.
But my advice would be buy an S first, lovely cars and I miss my old one terribly

Both have their merits..
I bought my Chim as i love the power and the styling.. (late Chim, best rear end in the business IMO)
However the S is a great drive. Really responsive handling.. Dare i say more 'chuckable' than the Chim..

Chim has a bigger boot.. (which is often used in Chim Griff teasing!)

All depends on Budget and preference.

I'd like to have both as the S just has something very appealing about it.

Hi Scotchegg
I looked up and down the country for a good S series probably over 10 cars in total. In the end i decided to blow the budget and go for a Chim , the main reason being its easier to find a good car.

If you want a good S series car this one is very tidy www.pistonheads.com/sales/160683.htm , i nearly bought it myself 16 months ago until i found it did not have a clear HPI , but it is the best one a saw.I think it had some body damage on the nearside front and bent a wishbone , apparently the chassis was untouched but at the time TVR wanted a body off check which was costly . I think the guy that owned the garage that did the repair owned it for a good while. Also not to far from you !.and the pictures don't do it justice it looks surprisingly good in white with blue hood and interior .

Hi - S or Chim, difficult choice. I started with an S2, ran it for 4 or 5 years and loved it before moving to a Chim 450 last year. The S was a good intro to TVR as I try and do maintenance etc myself, and not too much too handle (thats not to say it would not bite if abused though!). Going straight to the Chim would have been a big step. However, the Chim ride & handling is a quantum leap above the S and it is quite easy to drive for several hours (though mine does have Cerbera seats). Mrs LWT prefers the way it rides too. It just feels like a grown-up S. It depends on your budget of course - personnally, I would much rather have a late S3, S4 or V8S than an early Chim or Griff. Thats why I bought a late Chim and not an early Tuscan (and of course no real car has a straight 6...).

Ian.

I would be tempted by the slightly bigger, more modern Chim if you are going to use it as an every day car.

The 'S' may feel more chuckable, but it is this very facet that might make it wearing after a while for every day use.

Also, as has been said, there are a hell of a lot of VERY nice Chims out there at very attractive prices yes

scotchegg, are you anywhere near inkberrow? you can get some very useful advice from the boys at Geralds.
Just me reminiscing... my 1st needs for a TVR originated in the late 80's seing S's commuting between leeds and harrogate, me in a 1.0 nova thinking GOD 1 day I will have one of those.
