Hi guys - my central locking is up the spout. Fortunately the roof was off when it packed up, but it means I cannot put it back on without locking myself out (yes I know I can get in but ....)

The fuse is OK - the car is a 1999 450 and the handbook says it is fuse number 8 for Alarm and hazards - and the hazards don't work either so that must be the problem. But it isn't the fuse, I have changed it just to double check. Thing is, that very fuse blew a few weeks ago, replaced it and all was fine again but now, no luck.

Any ideas gratefully received - thanks

Try disconnecting the battery for 20 seconds and then reconnect.
Usually sorts out any silly faults with the central locking.
Cheers
Paul.

No good - disconected and reconnected - no difference - any more ideas?

Are you sure it's that particular fuse? There were so many variations in the fusebox it might not match the handbook. I'd check to see if there is another one that's blown. Also, has the fuse board ever been wet? Even though the fuse looks ok, the contacts might not be.

Well it did rain very heavily when I was on the M25 on Thursday but it worked for a day after that and it seems dry and has never been wet to my knowledge. It must be the contacts because it just stopped working. I think it has to be that particular fuse because it went previously (my radio was nicked and the wires touching blew it). Hmmmm

I am an idiot - it was the fuse. I was counting from the right instead of the left ... duh. Anyway, thanks for your help, there have been times when this forum has saved me from despair and maybe buying another car. Then I always manage a drive like the one on the A44 this week (tight uphill bends, dual carriageway, signs advise 30 max and about 55 to 60 powering uphill feels soooo good - anyone know it?). It is my only car and no garage so I feel the frustration more than some I think.

Cheers, and thanks for helping me keep the faith
