Tried to search for assistance of this as I know there are about 1 million or so threads on it, however, since search function seem to have given up completely....

Just got the car back from the annual service, took it home on Friday and all seemed well. Today, it doesn't start. Can hear the fuel pump priming at turning the key to step 1 (indicates the immobiliser is also working I guess), second step and .... nothing.. Seems the spark doesn't even leave the coil..

Any ideas what to check for next?

So the engine's turning over at normal revs on the starter motor, but not firing?

Sorry, should have made that a bit more clear, there's no turning over either, it's completely dead.

Obvious suspect is a dead battery - was it sitting around for a while?

Nope, two days, but I'll connect it so my jump start kit to confirm.

So the jump start didn't even turn it over? - sounds like a starter motor prob then or the wiring on the ignition switch on the steering column or the ...... What lights do you see on the dash when you turn the key?

You haven't driven it since it got back from its service so ring them and get them to sort it.

Thats to close for them to say its nothing to do with them. Who was it?

Afraid I'm not tech enuff to help out - espesh if no current is getting to the starter.

Good luck

Agree with DV there, but meanwhile, try giving the starter motor a firm clout (but don't go mad rolleyes )with a jack handle, or something similar, from above (i.e. through the engine bay), a sticking solenoid is not uncommon.

I was thinking the same as that's a classic, but I'm not up to speed enough on how this looks like :/ .. Can someone describe pls, or a picture? Don't want to hit wrong part and cause more damage....

Breakdown service will be called out first thing tomorrow morning.. This is so annoying, 4th time in a year I need to have it recovered.

Will keep an eye out here for further suggestions just in case.

Cheers guys for trying to help out!
