I'm not looking for sympathy, but I finally got caught for going a bit too fast along a dual carriage way A69 Bypass :-( I got 'served' a pink ticket with an offence called an HE52. No luck finding out what the potential implictions are, apart from £60 and 3 to 4 points, hopefully. I already have three point for speeding in my 306 diesel :-)

I'd just like to ask what I can do for damage limitation.

I understand that there's a 'rehabilitation' course that speeding drivers can go on to hopefully avoid the points. Is this something I can ask to go on or does it have to be offered to me? Does the pink ticket mean no way out i.e. pay fine and licence stamped with points end of story; have to be a 'good boy' for another three years?

Many thanks in advance for any advice

Try posting in the Speed, Plod And The Law forum, you'll get a full explanation of the ticket you've received and what's likely to happen.

I went along the A69 into Newcastle on Friday lunchtime and saw a few police cars around, maybe they're having a crackdown?

The course you refer to has to be offered to you and is only for a) those who have not been prosecuted for a similar offence in the preceeding (I think) 5 years and b) if the amount over the limit was less than (I think) 10mph.

As to damage limitation; you could opt to defend the case before the magistrate's court but you are unlikely to get anywhere and the costs are much higher than the fixed penalty, worth it if you are facing a ban but probably not otherwise.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Looks like it's just take the points and fine, if I'm not offered the 'Safe Speed' course.
