OK, so, went out for a blast last night, pulled up at the offy to get a bottle of wine for the g'f and myself, press the button on my 96P reg Chim to turn the side lights off, and my finger keeps going like it has been pressed through cardboard.

Upon closer inspection it would appear all 3 light buttons have comne away fromn the fixing. Cue lots od cursing, and gently trying to push the light buttoins on so I can drive home.

So, I arrive home and try to see the problem. In the process I crack the walnut surround, excellent .

Consulted the bible and it lookes like the radio needs to come out and then remove the panel, and put the light buttins back in place. Is this correct? And where can I get new surround from? Only had the car a week and 5 days and is still under warranty from Fernhurst, shall I get them to do it or get stuck in?

Is this a common problem? and would it explain why my handbrake light doesnt work?

Cheers
Mike

Take it straight back and get Fernies to fix it.

Speak with Brian or Graham at Fernies.
I doubt you will get any kind of hassle at all - top guys.

I concur with HH,
If it's under warranty with Fernies leave it to them
They can take a radio out or a dash for that matter quicker that you could read about it in the bible.

IMHO The switch must be fit for the purpose, not break (come adrift) after 12 days. Talk to them about the dash after all it wasn't entirely your fault, if you hadn't have had to try to get the switch sorted then it would not have happened!

And No to the handbrake light question, get them to fix that too.

I also agree with .Mark and HH, they’re a great bunch of Guy's.

I had the same problem when I first got my Chim. These buttons all sit on a stainless plate behind the dash, and are glued (yes glued!!) into position. If I remember rightly, the dash needs to come off because you can't get access from the radio.

I must admit, I don't know why TVR don't spot weld this piece into position rather than relying on glue which is obviously weaker. Any comments guys??

Anyway, get Fernhurst to do it anyway!!!

Yeh! Use the same glue that Lotus use!

Dash doesn't need to come off, just remove the stereo and you should be able to unscrew the plate it sits in to get at the lights to glue them back.

The lights ARE held on with a metal bracket ... but the metal bracket is held on with glue. Mine did the same a few weeks ago.

I suspect the glue vs weld issue is that the weld would damage the lamination of the face plate, or otherwise distort it. The glue normally lasts 6 or 7 years so its not a bad effort!

I think my 500 has decided to have a mid-life crisis, the dash has just cracked as well, at the far left. Not a big crack, but an unwelcome blemish nonetheless.

Well after a quick call to Fernhurst and a chat with the ever helpful Drew and a call back fron Brian, the car is booked in for Wednesday this week. Quite a big job apparently. But done under warranty, along with a few other niggles.

There wasa 4 week waiting list for work to be done, but as I have only had the car 2 weeks tomorrow, they are fitting me in on Wednesday.

I get a courtesy car for the day. I am assuming it won't be a TVR

So another big thumbs up to Fernhurst.

Cheers

When you get the courtesy car, check the glovebox, there should be a balaclava in there. If it isn't a quick chat with Brian should do it, they often leave it out when I pick it up

Result! But how do you get preferential treatment? Four weeks waiting to book a car in, must be all those cars there selling.

Your right about the courtesy car it ain't a TVR!

I just wish it had a big sticker in the back window that say's MY OTHER CAR IS A TVR

Perhaps someone at Fernies might read this post and take up my suggestion.

Like the Ka's Team Central used to give out with TVR in foot high lettering down the sides? Trust me, you feel a complete chump.

I managed to get a coutesy car next day when I rang Brian a few weeks back with a knackered drivers window (stuck down and I didn't have time to fix it). They've finally changed the Micras for Corsas. These even have electric windows and a rev counter.... but I'd rather have these than pay for the priveledge with other garages.

I think I'd prefer it to say 'courtesy car' on the side though. I felt a right chump acknowledging another TVR as I drove back down to Fernies and then realising.
