Where is the best place to mount an oil temperature sender, I know one option is to drill and tap the sump plug, but wondered if there are any other solutions.

You could put an adapter on the oil sender/switch ~ but arguments against were that it was not in a good flow. There are also compined oil pressure/switch sensors that would free a tapping up. I have read that there are bosses on some front covers that could be drilled out (to galleries) and tapped - that is prob a little extreme for your purpose tho

I'm not sure - oil will be hot in some spots... Sump may well be the coolest location (hence oil cooler wars & low readings).

Mine is in the Sump plug, I will one day evaluate the alternative....

Would it not be easier (and reversable) to add a sandwich plate to the filter, bit like adding an oil cooler. Would have a good flow of hot oil too.
