As I wrote earlier last week, I traded my Chim 500 against a Jaguar XKR.

When I used to drive the TVR, I sometimes had the feeling, that the car is satisfying but somehow, sometimes I had the feeling that it lacks a little bit of power and speed aswell as acceleration. Now I drive the XKR and I can say with confidence; the TVR is much, much faster.

Just if you qre in doubt of the performance of your TVR, try another car and you'll feel. The XKR is satisfying but the TVR is fun in terms of speed and acceleration.

Enjoy your TVRs...

Are you sure the XKR doesn't just "feel" slower?

I'm surprised that the supercharged Xk isn't as fast as a Chim once you're moving.

that could be mis-read hehe

Mind you, I've just checked the specs and it is indeed 1 second slower than a 500 for 1/4 mile and only has a 156 top end.

Surprised yes

You can get even more golf clubs in the back of a Jag, that's what slows you down

Well the clubs are useless without balls I guess.

So, not knowing much about the Chim,

Yes, I am confident that the TVR really is faster (at least in acceleration, and I am far awy from being a professional driver) as I have a GPS Tracker. Even if the XKR is in Sports mode he still cannot achieve the acceleration of the Chim. On the top speed I would say the XKR is a little faster. The XKR is limited to 250 km/h (but that can easily be "over-ruled".

Have fun with the TVR.

Don´t want to start a "mine is bigger than yours flamewar" but the datas I have achieved are with real street tyres and an untuned Chim 500(I am in Switzerland therefore you need to convert the datas), I am sure others have done better:

0-100 5.03 Sec
Top speed: 248 km/h (maybe it would have gone faster but I was wearing shorts at that day)
1/4 mile 13.392

Hope this helps!

With more aerodynamic trousers and cycle clips on I'm sure 160 could have been cracked - it's all down to wind up the gapping shorts and leg hair slowing you down - hope you had thermals on underneath to avoid frostbite.

If anyone has the 0-60 acceleration time of those "one up from the Boxter, can't afford a 911" Porsches (Caymen?) I'd appreciate it. (and before I get shot down, I kinda like them actually)

Saw one heading off from the light last night (oposite direction to me, and I was in the daily grind) and thought "jeez, that's a hell of a lot quicker than the TVR"

cheers

To put things in context, I once had a drag race in my 400 with Michael Schumacher in last year's Ferrari F1 car. I'd already lapped him by the time he'd travelled 100 yards. You should have seen the look on his face. It was only later that I discovered that I'd left the handbrake on and had been in neutral for 75% of the lap.

"a 2006 Cayman S returned a 0-60-mph run of only 5.0 seconds"

that's Chim territory. For some reason it looked REALLY quick.

Timewind's 5L 0-62 was 5.03 so the Cayman's 5.0 for the 0-60 is as quick as a Chim.

So perhaps Chims' are not so quick after all ?
Maybe to be quick now, we have to be sub 5 sec's?
Just seems like the whole playing field is changing, with 4 x 4's
Perhaps quick should be 4.5 area?
