I have read lots of threads on hot starting issues. I have a 98 Chim 450 and have the hot starting issue - what is not clear from the previous posts is whether the starter is actually turning but the engine is not firing or whether the starter doesn't turn at all. My starter turns over seemingly as normal.. but the engine dosesn't fire up. The fuel pump is priming. It is always ok if left for 10 mins or so and will eventually fire up if you persist - but not impressive at the petrol station! Le Mans next months.. lots of petrol stops! Any ideas please?

Not much help to you, I'm afraid, other than this is not the 'hot start' problem. With the 'hot start' problem, the starter motor solenoid doesn't operate, therefore the starter motor doesn't turn.

Your problem could be either fuelling or ignition, either LT or HT. Sorry if that's a little vague, but there's no point in me setting you off on a wild goose chase. I'd advise a visit to a specialist; they may be able to diagnose it quickly, without substituting every component, looking for a dud.

Thanks. Trip back to TVR Centre I think. They fitted a new solenoid before sale so maybe was an issue before. Will check it out with them.

Sounds like a problem I had with my 98 Chim450 until TVR Centre Barnet tried a new rotor arm. They told me there had been some serious issues with a batch of rotor arms. They have a stock of good ones now, so might be worth a try. It transformed the reliability & smooth running of my car. Until then, it used to stall at junctions, overheat, sometimes not start at all especially when hot - so much so that I was seriously thinking of giving up on it. When it doesn't fire but turns over, there's the risk of flooding - happened to me twice - it's no fun cleaning (& getting at!) 8 spark plugs. Trouble with the rotor fault is that it points you in all directions from fuel to sensors etc. I had even looked at & cleaned up the old rotor arm myself. It looked fine but clearly wasn't. Anyway, good luck with yours.
