Mixing SO3's with SO2's
Discussion
I know i'm asking for it with this thread as a lot of you have some very strong views about thses two tyres.
I am currently running a '96 4.0HC Chim with new SO3's on the rear and some SO2's on the front which are coming up to being replaced.
My intention was to purchase some SO3's for the front and have a matching set of 4 however i have come accross some more SO2's.
Does anyone have any particular strong views about mixing these?, car is used for road use only.

I replaced my SO2’s on the front of my (4.0l ’96 Chim) car last year (still wearing SO2’s on the rear), with some new SO3’s. For the first 3 weeks, they felt terrible, under-steered everywhere, locked up under braking really easy. I just thought that they weren’t run in yet. After 3 weeks and about 400 miles, they hadn’t improved, and I was moaning at everyone about the way the car now handled.
I couldn’t believe that Bridgestone had produced such a poor tyre that superseded an excellent one……
Then one of my mates checked the pressure’s with a proper tyre pressure gauge (not one of the mickey mouse one’s you buy from Halfords) – found that although I’d told the tyre fitters to only put 22PSI in them, they were actually at about 31PSI. Anyway the pressure’s were reduced, and WOW… what a transformation.. They are now spot on…
Since then I’ve completed 2 trackdays at Donnington, and 1 (last Tues) at Silverstone. Spot on tyre (no complaints) – I’m now on my second set up front (they seem a bit softer than the SO2’s). I’m just about to replace the rear SO2’s and will definitely be putting SO3’s on.
Morale of this – Fit some SO3’s, and buy a decent tyre pressure gauge, then be happy…
