Is anyone aware of a standard modification, or even a non-standard one, that would allow the boot to be released by some means other than turning the ignition on and pushing the under dash button? I was thinking of something activated by a key fob sender for example. I find the boot release a particularly annoying idiosyncrasy; is it just me? Thank you.

Some after market alarms have boot opening options.

A few of us have secreted magnetic reed switches at the rear of the car to open the boot. Apart from the convenience - it is also handy to be able to open using an alternate circuit in the case of a fuse blowing... My personal preference is using the courtesy light logic, as well as the roof connector being pretty handy

There's a spare terminal on the ignition switch. It's only live with the ignition in the key remove position. A short wire with a 'Lucar' connector on each end and an in-line fuse means you can now open the boot without putting the key in the ignition. It also means you can't open the boot inadvertently with the engine running eg. while you are driving!

The Mod to the alarm you speak of only applies to the later style (post 96) meta alarm. I have the earlier Foxgaurd type. I found a key fob in Maplin for a tenner that has a reciever which controls a switch. I have ordered one to give it a try. No idea if it is the right thing but ill try it and let you know.
