Firstly, should I be able to activate the central locking using the key on the passenger door? It's a '94 with the keys holes on the rear wing. The central locking has never worked on that side. Wondered if it should or have any effect on my central locking problem if it should work.

Secondly I have put my hand through the rear screen this morning, I won't go into how. Just the stitching has gone for about 6 inches. Is it worth trying to sort it myself or get it done somewhere. If I get it done, anyone know anywhere I can or how much it might cost.

Thanks in advance

Dan

Sorry, can't help with the central locking, but I did the same with my rear screen.

After advice from a few people on here I got it done locally in Huddersfield, the general answer I got was, if you want to do it yourself; you need to get a big needle, very strong thread and a stronger arm!

I took it as a chance to replace the scratched old screen (which had cost me 3 points by me not been able to see plod behind me! ok it could have been the speed also) anyway it cost 200 notes, they took the hood off the car, this itself can be tricky if your hood is old it can easily tear. They replaced the full screen with all new stitching and replaced the hood in a day.

Have you tried replacing the central locking solenoid? If it's not working on just one side this could be the problem and it's an easy fix.

The screen had come away on my V8S in a similar fashion to yours eel. I got a local seemstress who worked with leather to fix it, they have the required thick needles and thimbles.

I also have a car which uses keys in the button on the wing. On mine I can central lock on either side (twist/halfway push/twist technique), which also sets the alarm, but I can only disarm the alarm from the passenger side. Each door will loock independently as well.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I need a new solenoid and to save money take the roof off myself and get it re stitched. More money!!
