Ok, searched like crazy, and just get 'cannot find link'. Been through 50 pages also...

It looks like the water is coming in through behind the number plate. Is it going to be a case of getting busy with the sealant gun? And getting an external car cover (for when it is outside)?

Any tips apart from take your time, and make sure everything is secure?

I see from your profile that you have a '95 car. If it's like mine, the number plate lamps have sealant around them. Might be worth re-sealing them.

Interesting to see what you find when you take the number plate off and how you get on Don?

After changing the rear plate when I bought the car I noticed that there was a sheet of semi clear plastic behind the old plate which looked to be sellotaped (poorly I might add) over the access area to the number plate lights (I have a backlit plate). At the time I thought that's not very watertight...surely water will get behind the stuck on plate and in to the electrics? Also when the number plate lights are on they're not very bright?? I have the TVR backlit plate from Fancyplates!

Could this old grubby plastic cover (I gave it a bit of a wipe I hasten to add but this hasn't helped) be the cause of the lack of brightness coming through the backlit plate or should I just change/clean the bulbs? What should be behind the plate protecting the electrics, a sheet of clear plastic sealed on properly or what? I have my MOT coming up soon and I know that they don't like the backlit plates so I will need to at least ensure it is bright enough yes

If anyone has any tips on what should go behind the plate to keep the elctrics dry I would be very grateful thumbup

OK, had fun with a sealant gun last night... and then went out to fix the Chimp!

One of the rear numberplate lights was badly cracked, thed the rubbers were quite slimey and it was all pretty dirty. It's now clean, sealed (god that stuff is sticky!), and we will see if it workks.

Next up: car cover (anyway).

Cheers for your help people.
