Hi all,

The car has been standing out in the rain as the garage is out of action for a few days (perfect timing!!) and noticed over the weekend that a lot of water has got in behind the drivers seat and the carpets are soaked. None of the carpets leading down to floor are wet or any of the trim so I can't work out where the water's coming from! Any ideas? Looks like it must be being channelled there because of the volume thats accumulated. Tried doing a search but not found any hints.

Any help gratefully received. Cheers, Kevin

Are you sure that the carpet/trim is dry? Check the carpet on the sides behind the seat - that is where water can run down if the 'elephant ears' are missing or not working right.

Before you ask (and to save you searching) 'elephant ears' are pieces of rubber stuck onto the bottom of the roof material (where the velcro is) and they cover the gap between the roof and the outside of the car (behind the door). If they're missing/damaged, new ones can be made from an old bike inner-tube.

this www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=9&t=381344 may be useful. Check that your door seals are pinched at the bottom very close to where they go from vertical to horizontal.

Thanks both. Chim666 - certainly seem dry but not certain they are - not sure I have elephant ears! Just remembered as well that a piece of rubber seal fell off last week from the door by the end of the window runner so this may have created a pointed of entry.

Cheers for the link jonathant - I have no idea if its pinched or not, another one to check when its drier!

If the velcrow flaps on the inside of the roof are pulled too tight then the roof lets water in, the flaps need to be in effect on the edge of the velcrow part that is attched to the inside of the rear wing.

Sorry this is not the easiest thing to explain but my car was leaking loads of water through this part of the roof, and it took ages to work out what it was, as I was putting loads of waterproofing stuff on and it was still not working, but all it was, was the flaps on the inside were pulled to tight, since setting the flaps up properly it now only leeks around the clear panel which I beleive is quite normal, and does not come in through the side parts at all.

Snap,i have just had exactly the same thing happen to mine,i reckon this may be your problem because my car as been water tight since i purchased(sealed the roof, new weather strips etc)and that piece of rubber fell out last week since then the carpet near the seatbelt is getting wet,i just have not got round to making a new one, use the passenger side one as a pattern(it was perished)good luck.
