My car's in for a 6k service today (my first experience with a TVR) and I've just had a phone call from the garage this morning with pocket-hurting news (I'm sure you've all been there): out of the list they rattled off, the gearbox work stood out as the most expensive at £700 eek

The synch for change up from 1st to 2nd has never been particularly smooth (only when accelerating hard) since I bought it in Sept, and I'm now being told that I need it reconditioning

Does this sound about right £-wise? Does anyone have anywhere else they would recommend where I can phone and benchmark prices?

Thanks

That sounds ridiculously expensive to me.I could sell you a brand new one for very little more than that!(including vat!)

Thats not neccesary, maybe the fitter as no faith in his work(its not a racing box)if the box is built correctlyread then this is just a waste of time,no wonder the repair bills on these cars are so ramped upscratchchin,i could understand this kind of thing on an overdrive unit to check hydraulics & electrics, and yes The AJP griff that seems like a lot of money for whats probably no more than a 2nd gear syncro assy a bearing and re/seal job, oh not forgeting the hot tanking.

The gearbox rebuild is not so expensive, are you expecting the gearbox to jump out of the car for free & magically reappear back again? I would be surprised if the box man would be getting much more than half of that estimate. (I know it would be particularly easy in your case Mike hehe)
