My car has just come back from the rollers with some bad news. The operator told me that when he runs it up when the dizzy should be advancing its retarding. I gave the dizzy a mate who has stripped it down to change the weights but they didnt fit so its been reasembled using the original parts. Could it be a case of summat just not put back together with the dizzy.

Im thinking of coilpacks eventually but dont wanna shell out for a new one. Could something be back to front in the dizzy causing this maybe????

Many thanks

Can't think of any way to reassemble a dizzy to make it do that, other than failing to connect the vac module properly. That would allow the timing to go all over the place though (including the rather worrying possibility of *way* too much advance under power) rather than systematically retarding with revs as you describe. Are you sure the symptoms have been described accurately?

greenv8,

when he first looked at it the timing was advancing 2 much 44deg + so he left the vac advance off. Can the van advance not be connected inside the distributor maybe??

Thanks

Have a diizy that I have just taken off my 400 serpentine that you can borrow if any use. Was working fine when it came off, have replaced with coil packs. Am over in Solihull

That's my thought. Both advance mechanisms are easily tested just by confirming that the timing responds to vacuum correctly, and also to revs. I'd be astonished if you managed to get the centrefugal advance to work in reverse, far more likely imo that the vacuum cannister has failed or simply not connected to the base plate.

Hi, more than happy to have a chat about what I have done so far.
Where abouts are you based in Worcestershire?

Am talking to a guy in Bristol at the mo who as fitted mega squirt to a V8 before and is now doing another engine.
My brother is also fitting to a 4cyl engine but the principals are the same.

Have you done anything else to the motor Neal? When I fitted the twin Jenvy plenum to mine, the throttle position pot (may be an Omex pot but not sure without looking) wiring was reversed and giving the same effect. Mark Adams spotted this when I was on the rollers; as I remember, this was the second case he'd encountered.

Thats interesting actually cause I did remove the wiring, I thought the connectors could only go on the right way so to speak..

Ive also checked the vacume module and that is connected on the dizzy inside..

Need to check wiring now..Thanks for that advice
