Got the rear end in bits, all suspension off at present and looking to drop the diff as I have some powerflex bushes waiting to be fitted, the gearbox is still in and proshaft still attached having real problem undoing the 4 bolts on the diff to prop how tight are these and how do you undo them as there is a chasis tube right in the way.

Also once the diff is out the way is it possible to remove the top bush in the chasis with the body still on, if so any tips on how you do this as it's the original type metal outer.

Leverage is your friend - but you need the car nice & high... They are @100ftlb IIRC (some have nuts on the rear as well BTW).

Drill the rubber (holesaw type drill work well when Ive tried them) (I'd be too scared to burn them out ) then carefully cut the sleeve. Its all just a bit fiddly - take your time. Some have reported bush removal tools to work, they may have just been lucky....

You have to lift the diff up & tilt it on its side for it to come out BTW.

Hi,
I managed to undo those prop bolts, they were tight. I used open ended spanner on the bolt heads (no room for socket or a ring spanner- if I remember right). Placed spanner handle up against chassis rail to hold bolt head still then squeezed a socket on the nut and used a 3/8 ratchet. Agree, the higher you can get the diff in the air lot easier with the leverage.

Its also possible without removal of diff as well but a P.I.T.A....

Either a long drift and lump hammer for removal of old bush or a void bush tool...

Replacement Poly can be squeezed in with long bolt & large washers...
