Here is the car:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/144218.htm

Needs a gearbox rebuild (as per other post on here). So private price considering the work that has been done.

Cheers all,

Rob

Yep, developed a synchro problem. Going to be fixed before purchase. Not really a concern to me, cars have faults that need to be fixed. Seems like an honest car. Lots of work done, chassis in good condition and Austec say it's a nice example. Had a full respray and new hood, braided lines, waxoyled, top end rebuild etc.

So this car with a gearbox refresh - what do you gents think RE value?

Rob

So what do you think a more realistic price is then?

To be honest ... if all the rebuild work and paintwork is good and with a nice new gearbox, £12k isn't bad for a good condition 500.

The only thing that may make it hard to sell is a steel dash, with yellow dials, and a green carpet!

The silence is deafening!

The way I see it is as follows:

If I where to purchase the car for £11700 I would be paying roughly £700 over market value (it is pre-face lift but has Serp and T5). I don't mind the £700 overspend due to New paint, shocks, rack, radiator, good chassis etc etc.

Basically I'd rather pay more for a car that will hopefully be reliable and not rotten rather than spending money on fixing a 'bargain'.

So any opinions?

Regards,

Rob

Just beat me to it! That is a typo - it has grey carpet (thankfully!).

The yellow dials will have to go.

My car has a lot.... more new components than that & I wouldnt expect them to an iota to the price? For that money you could buy a good Griff, which whether you like it or not have far better resale values than the Chim.

Cant say I follow prices closely, but it sounds like Al is politely advising you along the right lines to me.

I knew I recognised the car!

I have all Shady's shots from Le mans 2005 on my screen saver as a slide show and up popped one of the camp with all the cars outside ... and yep ... there is said yellow Chimaera

It is Hughesie's old car. To be honest, I wasn't making any comments with any hidden meanings. If you can get the car for a bit less than that price and it has a great paint job. You have a nice 500 with a, for all intents and purposes, nearly new engine and gearbox.

The other bits and pieces are certainly nice to have, but it all boils down to who did the engine and gearbox work.

(apparently it sounds thunderously wicked!)

Great looking car ... though I would say that ... my yellow Griff 500 will be going in the ads soon, but it will be a couple of grand more than this Chim
